Thoughts on the name Emilio?

My partner is half Italian with a long Italian surname (think Rigatoni). Middle name will be John after my late grandad.

We have lots of girls names we like but are struggling with boys names, we like Luca but it’s very common. We also like Emilio but I’m worried it’s a bit too unusual… wondering what other people think? Or any other Italian boy name suggestions would be great too

The girls names we like are Sienna, Juliette and Alessia to give you an idea of our taste

Thanks!

It’s a lovely name, but maybe too similar to Emilia which is a fairly common girl’s name and more common to people’s ears than Emilio? This might not bother you at all, so disregard if so.

I love Emilio

It's my cousins name (he is Italian)

No one muddles it up with Emilia

Go for it

AriettyHomily · 03/01/2023 14:31

Love it, don't see any confusion.

lilichi · 03/01/2023 14:32

Lovely!

ofwarren · 03/01/2023 14:32

Great name

SalviaOfficinalis · 03/01/2023 14:32

Emilio is lovely, don’t think it’s too unusual.
By that I mean although it’s not commonly used in the UK I think most people will have heard it.

I like it. I also like Matteo

GoodbyeLondon · 03/01/2023 16:38

I like it.

I know a little Lorenzo and also love that.

Gillyx · 03/01/2023 20:10

I like it! Reminds me of Emilio Estevez!

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2023 21:40

I like Emilio, don’t think it’s too unusual but there are a lot of Em names around if that bothers you. Luca is getting overused

Aurelio is nice

or Alessandro, Antonio, Mateo all work very easily in English

BabyFour2023 · 03/01/2023 21:42

Love Emilio

Dhs Italian friend has a little boy named Vincenzo but day to day he’s known as Enzo.

Fivebeanchilli · 03/01/2023 21:43

It's fine. I don't think it's that unusual - everyone will have heard of it.

Divebar2021 · 03/01/2023 21:45

I think the Gen xers will all know Emilio Estevez…. ( better an Emilio than a Charlie Sheen)

jjeoreo · 03/01/2023 21:45

I think Emilio is great.

Luca also lovely but very popular it seems, if that bothers you.

Can't see why it would get confused for Emilia...it's a well-known name in its own right.

I like it! Reminds me of Emilio Estevez!

Was just about to say this! I think it’s a lovely name. Unusual but not crazy out there or confusing. I don’t think it’s likely to be confused with Emilia, as they have different endings - people seem to manage ok with George and Georgia. Or Paul and Paula, Alex and Alexa etc.

Lastminutebride · 03/01/2023 21:47

It’s a lovely name. I also like Benito

Axahooxa · 03/01/2023 21:49

Beautiful name- it was on my shortlist along with Emille.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 03/01/2023 21:51

It sounds ugly said aloud with the mealy-o bit. Mealy is a vile word.

SassyPants87 · 03/01/2023 21:52

Emilio is lovely! I also like the name Nico

TeeBee · 03/01/2023 21:53

Gorgeous!

TaraRhu · 03/01/2023 22:05

Lovely 😊 Good luck x

daretodenim · 03/01/2023 22:05

Great name. Go for it.

Lorenzo is also good but in English the R won't sound close to the more musical/stressed Italian version, whereas the L in Emilio doesn't lose its sound so much - hmm unless you live somewhere it'd be pronounced as Emiel-yo (where the L isn't almost swallowed/silent). If that's how it'd be said I'd choose something else!

daretodenim · 03/01/2023 22:06
