Looking for water inspired girls names. Any preferences over Nixie or Naia?

Naia is my favourite out of the two. I'm not keen on Nixi although I do like Nyx

Like your other post these sound like what you name a pet and Nixie is a cute nickname but not an adults name. Naia is better but sounds made up

BrownEyedGhoul · 01/01/2023 20:01

You cannot call a child Nixie.

Lionessss · 01/01/2023 20:02

Naia
But she will constantly have to say 'Naia, NO, not Maya, with an N'
Nixie doesn't sound like a serious name for a grown up woman at all - albeit cute for a baby/toddler girl

Splonker · 01/01/2023 20:05

Nixie is super cute. Naia reminds me of Gaia which has been so overdone.

Splonker · 01/01/2023 20:06

Grown up she could be called Nix. Nixie is brilliant. I might borrow it myself.

San1991 · 01/01/2023 20:51

@splonker I love the short version Nix too x

Nyx. Think she's a Greek goddess. Not keen on your choices.

MajesticWhine · 01/01/2023 20:53

Don't like either but Naia is better

Has Gaia been overdone? It's 634th on Dark Greener.

LaLuz7 · 01/01/2023 20:57

Neither.

Mosaic123 · 01/01/2023 20:58

Nixie, too much like knickers?

sakura06 · 01/01/2023 20:59

I think Naia pips it for me. We had a fox in our garden called Nixie (Nixie Nox in Dr Seuss).

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 01/01/2023 21:01

Neither!

Talipesmum · 01/01/2023 21:04

Love them both. Naia is probably a little easier as an adult, but both lovely.

Talipesmum · 01/01/2023 21:07

There’s also Ondine?

Love the name Nixie

MerryChristmasTree · 01/01/2023 21:18

Nixie? Is that even a name? It sounds like something you’d nickname a toddler or a rabbit. Awful.

🤣

devildeepbluesea · 01/01/2023 21:20

Nixie is disgustingly saccharine. Naia marginally better, but surely you can think of better names than this duo of twee?

Cantseethewindows · 01/01/2023 21:28

Nyx was the personification of night in Greek mythology. Nixie reminds me of (Richard) Nixon. Niks also means nothing in Dutch. Naia sounds like nada, which also means nothing. They both have connotations of "nothing" to me - not exactly the vibe I'd be wanting for my kids!

San1991 · 01/01/2023 21:33

Very mixed responses (which was expected).
We already have an Elora who is often called Lori as a nickname.
Open to suggestions :)

We also liked Hallie, but think its now in the top 100 and with my partner and I both being teachers we are trying to avoid names of children we could potentially have lots of in a class.

We also discussed Sadie, Quinn and Jenna x

Very much this.

Marina or Cora or something.
