Which do you prefer and why? Any other suggestions?

Lois is amazing, I feel Hazel is a bit old fashioned

RedSauceSpaghetti · 29/12/2022 17:45

Lois is lovely. But it will get mispronounced a lot. My closest friend is called Lois and has been called "Louis" "Lewis" and "Louise" a squillion times.

harrassedmumto3 · 29/12/2022 17:48

Lois.

wetpebbles · 29/12/2022 17:55

I prefer Hazel

mathanxiety · 29/12/2022 18:05

Hazel - more of a classic.

Lois is more faddy. I feel it's a name that appeals to women who have very dark hair with very short fringes and wear a lot of bangles.

Roselilly36 · 29/12/2022 18:08

Lois

KirstenBlest · 29/12/2022 19:10

Both are nice, I slightly prefer Lois, but the four-letter L names like Lily, Lila, Leah, Lola, Luna etc are very popular right now, so Hazel might be more distinctive.

ShesThunderstorms · 29/12/2022 19:11

Hazel definitely. It feels a bit more special.

Yankeedoodlemandy · 29/12/2022 19:12

Are you pronouncing Lois LOW IS or LOYSE?
I know older ladies with both pronunciations . I like the second version best but prefer both to Hazel.

Veryfishy · 29/12/2022 19:14

Hazel definitely
I live in Wales and here , Lois is pronounced Loyce ( rhymes with Joyce ) and is not good

Cheezpuf · 29/12/2022 19:21

Hazel.. earthy, grounded and beautiful

KirstenBlest · 29/12/2022 19:22

I much prefer the welsh pronunciation @Veryfishy , and it's pronounced that way in many other countries, including Greece.

Linnet · 29/12/2022 19:24

I’d go for Hazel, I feel Lois is over used, you very rarely hear the name Hazel.

IsThePopeCatholic · 29/12/2022 19:26

Lois: sassy and modern
hazel: boring and plodding

RambamThankyouMam · 29/12/2022 19:27

Hazel is ok.

Lois is one of the ugliest names I can think of. So blubbery and claggy.

ChillysWaterBottle · 29/12/2022 19:31

Hazel!

Notonyournellykelly · 29/12/2022 19:31

Hazel is nice and has character.

Like a pp, there are so many vowel-y names with ls in them ATM. Elara, Lilah, Lola, Lyrah etc. They all blend into one a bit and it makes them lack a bit of personality for my tastes.

Reggiebo · 29/12/2022 19:36

Hi I am Hazel.....mmmm boring and plodding.

WillTryNotToBeGrumpy · 29/12/2022 19:49

Hazel is ok.

Lois is one of the ugliest names I can think of. So blubbery and claggy.

Unnecessarily unkind.

I prefer Lois but both are lovely.

Jellybean2023 · 29/12/2022 19:53

I like both, but I'd say Hazel would be my top choice.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/12/2022 22:25

Love Lois - strong and elegant

I really don’t like Hazel, but I think it’s because a friend of mine had a terrible stepmother who said it AY-ZWIL. It’s OK, if a bit spiky

Ines
Oona
Clio
Honor
Catrin
Carys
Olwen

might be others

Trez1510 · 30/12/2022 04:17

I prefer Lois of the two you mentioned.

Hazel conjures up an image of a child with mousey brown hair and hazel eyes for me. Any other colour combination would just seem wrong! lol

Other suggestions:

Thea
Vivienne
Cordelia
Faith

SilentNightDancer · 30/12/2022 04:41

Hazel is much nicer.

Really dislike Lois.
