Casper or Caspar

I prefer the biblical/traditional Caspar. DH prefers Casper as thinks that’s how most people would automatically spell it. I’d rather not use the American version but can see his point about it being what most people assume is the ‘correct’ spelling.
What would you use? I don’t like the K spelling particularly. Thanks

Caspar for me.

Borracha · 27/12/2022 12:37

I have a Caspar and people constantly spell it ‘-er’ 😡

liveforsummer · 27/12/2022 12:38

I prefer the double A but imagine you'd get lots of mis spells as above

Pheepa · 27/12/2022 13:17

@Borracha do you wish you’d gone with Casper?

Caspar

Both Casper and Caspar are derivations of the ancient Chaldean word gizbar, which then became Gaspar. Both are accepted English variants of the name, though Casper is more popular currently. Just preference as to which spelling you choose as neither one is correct or incorrect.

Personally I prefer Caspar, but Casper is the most common spelling in England and Wales which might mean more people will assume that spelling.

DotDotDotDotDot · 27/12/2022 16:29

Caspar looks better to me, less friendly ghost than Casper too.

creamcheeseandlox · 27/12/2022 16:36

My ds is Casper spelt er. Only one person has ever spelt it ar.

LulooLemon · 27/12/2022 16:37

Caspar

creamcheeseandlox · 27/12/2022 16:38

Caspar was one of the three wise men carrying the gold which is why the name means treasurer. Little festive fact for you all.

PurpleButterflyWings · 27/12/2022 16:43

I know someone with a KASPER. He is 5. Not one single person has ever EVER spelt it correctly. Always Caspar, occasionally Casper, NEVER 'Kasper.' I also know someone with a son called Deekinn. (Pronounced Deekan.) He is 7. Again, not a soul has ever spelt it right. I have said to DH a few times, 'if you're going to give your kids unusual names, and even MORE unusual spellings, then don't piss and moan when no-one gets it fucking right!!!'

Totally irrelevant sorry @Pheepa I would go for CASPAR. Most people will spell it that way.

GigiEm · 27/12/2022 19:33

I have a Caspar and a lot of people spell it Casper but I still prefer the Caspar spelling!

Starsinthesky22 · 27/12/2022 19:49

Casper!

@Borracha do you wish you’d gone with Casper?

Hmmm no, I mean it’s annoying when people get it wrong but I feel quite strongly that -ar is the ‘right’ spelling 😀 It’s a great name btw, definitely my favourite name of my three kids!

resm · 27/12/2022 22:40

I have an Isaac who is constantly misspelled as Issac and sometimes even Isacc (wtf) so people are going to get it wrong regardless. I’d go with your preferred spelling of Caspar.

Pheepa · 28/12/2022 23:20

Thanks everyone, he arrived this morning but didn’t look like a Casper or Caspar so we’ve gone with 2nd choice of Elliot Lucas, or should that be Elliott?! 😫

xprincessxjanetx · 28/12/2022 23:29

Caspar

Twoinapod · 30/12/2022 19:51

I’d pronounce both differently so it would depend on that.

KendrickLamaze · 30/12/2022 20:25

Congratulations! Hope you're both doing well Flowers

Blog34 · 01/02/2023 23:32

Caspar for me too - but Elliot also lovely!

DuchessOfSausage · 02/02/2023 13:13

Caspar

DuchessOfSausage · 02/02/2023 13:14

Oops! Congratulations. I like Elliott, but you've probably registered him by now.

Pheepa · 02/02/2023 16:15

Yes, went with Elliot as DH preferred it for some reason!
