Clelia - Yay or Nay

I read a thread recently in relation to the name Clelia for a baby girl and loved it.

However, it attracted so bad comments that it reminds of female genitals/clit.

I was wondering why Clelia has this association and names like Cleo or Chloe don’t…

Is it really that much bad name and a big no?

Never heard of it but it’s a pretty sound. I rather like it.

Sounds awful. Doesn't exactly flow off the tongue.

Is it pronounced differently in Italy? Clelia is not like Chloe because of the clunk repeated 'l' sound.

I think it’s lovely! Beautiful rare and interesting

No, pronounced as it's written. Stress on the E.
It would be like "Cle" to rhyme with "tray" then "lia" to sound like "Leah".

It's italian and pronounce CLAIL-i-a, clail sounding like clair not clay

Now you'll make people think it's pronounced with an R in it.

KirstenBlest · 27/12/2022 14:11

@Geamhradh , if it did I'd have said Clair-lia, which I didn't, and it's quite obvious that Clelia doesn't have an R in it.
Maybe I should have said CLAIL-ia, clai like in clair not clay.

I think most would say Clelia as Klell-ya or Kleel-ya, if they read it
