B/G Twins

Gingersnappy · 23/12/2022 17:39

Due in April and DH said I could choose their first names as long as he could choose middle (as long as we both liked the names chosen as well). I chose Eleni and Roman for first names, he chose Leia and Luka for middle names--so Eleni Leia and Roman Luka. Thoughts on these names?

To add, if you were having B/G twins, what would you name them?

Eleni will get her name said as Elainey or Elleny instead of Elenny quite a lot.
Roman is very popular, if that's an issue.
Middle names don't get used much. How the first names go with the surname is more important.

You will be saying the two names together a lot so how do you feel about 'Eleni and Roman'

What's your heritage OP? Not that it matters, just interested I'm not Susan Hussey.

ReeseWitherfork · 23/12/2022 18:43

DH is a Star Wars fan then!

I'm a little bit of many things (German, Irish, Greek but just a tiny bit, etc). Dad is Mexican and Puerto Rican. We tend to love Greek names in specific though as our daughter has the name of a Greek goddess just spelled differently) and these 2 names obviously also!

You would think! He's never watched it, just happened to love the 2 names 😂 I bet we're going to be hearing a lot of that though!

I think it flows well and sounds quite cute! I just didn't know if it was because I chose the 2 names or if others could agree

My point was more about the number of times you'll be saying the names together - probably quite a lot. My DC have short names, so the 3+2 syllables seem long.

My friend has two DC and she tends to call 'JakeEmly' when she's calling 'Jacob and Emily' (not their real names but that sort of idea)

bloominglovelyorange · 23/12/2022 20:49

Eleni is nice.
Roman is the fastest rising boy name, risen hundreds of places in past two decades to now be number 23 and still rising. I know loads of babies called Roman, but no one over 5 years old. So it's a trendy popular choice - just depends, is that what you want?

RambamThankyouMam · 23/12/2022 21:35

Eleni is lovely but it doesn't go with Leia.

Roman and Luca are both dreadful.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/12/2022 01:02

I really like Eleni but she’ll likely be one of a squillion Ellies and Roman also very popular so I’d see if I could come up
with something else.

Athena or Athene maybe?

Leia is a bit odd - Leila?

Luka - I’d spell it Luca unless there’s a specific reason not to, as will be a pain for him

BabyFour2023 · 24/12/2022 01:24

How do you say Eleni? I’m saying it Elaine-y which sounds weird to me but that’s the first assumption from sight. I don’t really think Roman Luca goes, nor does Eleni Leia… just sounds like Laney Laya to me.

FirstFallopians · 24/12/2022 01:43

Eleni is lovely- quite an international vibe and not crazy popular.

I don’t love Roman. It’s just a bit blah- Luca is nicer and goes well with Eleni.

You say: L N E

PollyPeter · 24/12/2022 03:46

I like them! And I don't agree with pp that Luka spelling will be an issue as it's his middle name and noone else ever uses it. Also think Eleni Leia is fine together, it's heavy on similar sounds but nothing wrong with that. I do think you will get pronunciation issues with Eleni but tonnes of names have this problem!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 24/12/2022 03:55

Athena is an excellent suggestion.

Eleni seems like a nickname and the lifelong pronunciation issues will be tedious

Athena Leia isn't bad.

How about Artemis?

caroleanboneparte · 24/12/2022 07:25

Apollo and Artemis
Noah and Ruth
Arran and Skye
Harris/Lewis and Isla/Iona
Dallas and Savannah
Basil and Lavender
Don and Aurora
Sonny and Summer
Bruce and Wallis
Gray and Bleu
Liam and Billie
Nathaniel and Natalia
William and Catherine
James and Jaime
George and Mildred

Ah ok thank you!

KirstenBlest · 24/12/2022 12:14

@BabyFour2023 , El-enny. Agree with you that the middle name doesn't really flow.
Agree with a pp that it's yet another Ellie name.

KirstenBlest · 24/12/2022 12:21

FWIW I don't like the name Roman, and as a pp said, it has become very popular very quickly, so will probably date badly.
Rowan and Ronan are nicer, but a bit samey.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/12/2022 12:22

I'd switch the girl baby's first and middle name

Rickandmortified100 · 24/12/2022 15:37

Love Eleni but I really don’t like Roman - so overdone and lacks substance somehow

Purplemagnolias · 24/12/2022 16:48

Eleni is lovely! Beautiful and not overused.

Roman is too trendy imo. How about
Quentin
Reuben
Tristan

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/12/2022 17:06

I think they’re lovely!

if I had twins I’d call them Juniper Eden and Caspian Rex

TheBirdintheCave · 24/12/2022 17:15

I love Eleni. Not a fan of Roman but there's nothing wrong with it.

But... come on... you can't call twins Luka and Leia, even as middle names 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm married to perhaps the biggest Star Wars nerd ever and even he thinks that's too much.

Whatwhatwhatnow · 24/12/2022 18:13

I like Roman Luka.

I'm afraid I find Eleni and Leia too similar and kind of bleed together. I would change one of them. Personally I find Eleni a bit awkward to say.

If I had boy girl twins they'd be Catherine Calypso and Sirius Martin!
