I just cannot decide. I am finding boy's names especially hard.

Names I like:

Imogen (Immy)
Melody
Amila
Zala
Amalia

Kobe
Rowan
Mateo

Any suggestions are very much welcome! I prefer names that aren't too common, and I am also a fan of nicknames.

Imogen (Immy) - ok
Melody - will be confused with Elodie and Melanie
Amila - too similar to Amelia and Mila
Zala - not sure
Amalia - too similar to Amelia

Kobe - not sure of its origin, I'd guess african american
Rowan - - nice but names beginning with R are very popular right now
Mateo - would suggest italian heritage

Imogen (Immy) - nice, quite popular

Melody -no, she’ll be called Mel

Amila - no, will get confused with the ubiquitous Amelia / Emilia

Zala - no, sounds like a random misspelling of Zara. Zara is fine..

Amalia - no, sounds like a random misspelling of Amelia

Kobe - awful

Rowan - lovely but very popular

Mateo - nice enough, he’ll be called Mat - if you have no cultural connection to this version of the name than I think you are better with Matthew / Matthias

Iona

Alicia
Abriella

If you like names that aren't that popular then go on the "dark greener" website as that automatically shows you names which are booming. Names like Roman and Rowan are some of the fastest rising names, very trendy. I know loads of babies with these names, not surprising looking at the graphs.
avoid if popularity is a concern

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/12/2022 22:13

Melody and Rowan are my favourites!

RambamThankyouMam · 25/12/2022 08:57

Imogen (Immy) - disgusting name.
Melody - no.
Amila - nice.
Zala - nice.
Amalia - too close to anal.

Kobe - beef.
Rowan - lovely.
Mateo - only if you're Italian. Spell it Matteo.

midsomermurderess · 29/12/2022 15:18

I don’t agree about using Mateo only if you have Italian heritage. Other countries use Anglo name. Kevin had quite a moment in France a number of years ago.

KirstenBlest · 29/12/2022 18:27

@midsomermurderess , I think we view that one differently. Kevin to me is a man of about 60, or Kevin & Perry.

Mateo is in keeping with the Theo, Leo, Hugo, Arlo, Milo trend. If nothing else, it's probably a PITA to get asked about your heritage a lot.

Nightwithhertrainofstars · 29/12/2022 19:38

Mateo is also common in Spain, spelt like that. I believe it is rising in popularity in the UK.
I like Melody best from your girls list.
You might like Roman for boys, though it is also becoming more popular. Doesn't compare to how common something like Oliver or George is though.
