They are all very different from each other! I like the girls' list, the only one I don't like that much is Florence, I quite like Flora though. And Frances is a fine name but a bit plain, makes a good middle name though. Have you considered Francesca?

The boys' names, again very eclectic. You've got Cody which is very American, then Henry, Ralph and Perry, which are a bit try hard posh English. I prefer Harry to Henry, and Perry is a bit wussy imo. Rowan is a girl's name to me. Actually I'm not mad on any of the boys' names.

So you have an issue with an American name but then suggest an Italian name?

CatSeany · 21/12/2022 23:39

Florence, Juliet, Frances and Henry I love!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2022 23:42

Juliet and Henry - classic feeling and gorgeous sound, so would be my picks.

Also have a soft spot for trendy but sweet sounding Rowan and Scots lad Fraser. Quite like uncommon, quirky Anoushka, bohemian trendy Florence and retro ladylike Frances too. Don't like the sound of Ralph personally but nothing wrong with it as such.

Not Cody or Perry - very 90's/00's sounding boyband imo and on the opposite scale I know Dorothy is on an upward swing currently but it's still feels like it should be in a retirement home to me.

Yellowcakestand · 21/12/2022 23:43

I don't like any of them. Although I do know a Ralphie, I like that

I didn't say I had an issue with Cody as an American name, did I? Just that it was very different from the very English Henry Ralph and Perry. People tend to make lists of similar names IME.

Juliet & Ralph

jocktamsonsbairn · 21/12/2022 23:54

For girls:
Dorothy 9/10 - lovely name, not over-used and means 'gift of God' which is beautiful
Florence (not overly keen on Flo though) 8/10 - nice name but every other girl under ten seems to be called it
Anouchka 5/10 not attractive
Juliet 9/ 10 lovely
Frances 10/10 perfect
ChloƩ 8/10 very nice

For boys:
Rowan 7/10
Perry 0/10 awful
Cody 1/10 awful
Fraser 6/10 alright
Henry 8/10 nice name but overused
Ralph 6/10 not great

CrimsonThunder · 22/12/2022 00:06

We probably have different taste in names. The important thing is if you like them.

Dorothy - sorry, I don't think I'll ever warm to this. Don't like Dorothea either.

Florence (not overly keen on Flo though) - overused dated.

Anoushka - very 1980's, but I really like it.
Juliet - lovely, but I prefer Julla
Frances - like Dorothy, not a name I can warm to. Prefer Francesca or Francine
ChloƩ - prefer Zoƫ

For boys:
Rowan - my favourite - love it for a boy or a girl
Perry - I just think Kevin or platypus!
Cody - ok - prefer it for a girl
Fraser - like it
Henry - love it
Ralph - no!

For a girl what about:
Edie or Edina
Delphine
Coralie
Anneke
Rowan

Boys:
Jude
Raphael
Silas
Elias

I like Juliet, Rowan and Ralph. Chloe, Henry and Cody are fine. Don’t like any of the others.

scottishnames · 22/12/2022 17:55

I like Dorothy and Florence (I'd use nickname Flossie). Frances is great - plain and simple and elegant, like Jane. I'm not keen on Juliet - prefer Julian/Gillian. But no reason for that, just personal taste. If you choose Chloe, please spell it correctly. There is no acute accent over the final 'e'. If you want to emphasise the Chlow-EE pronounciation, then use a diaresis (two dots) over the e. That shows it's pronounced as a separate syllable. As a previous poster has pointed out, a final e with an acute accent gives you the sound 'ay' . That's not what the name sounds like.

Boys names - Rowan is really nice but quite popular and (as others have said on other threads) likely to get lost in a sea of currently extremely popular Rohans and Romans. Of the others, Henry is a good solid name. I don't particularly like it, but again, that's just personal taste. But I very much prefer it to the rest on your list.

Gosh, OP am sorry if this sounds unkind. That is not my intention. Of course, of course, the name of your baby is ENTIRELY up to you, whatever people say.

Juliet is nice. The sounds are nice and classically balanced and the association with Shakespeare's play gives it distinction.

TidyDancer · 22/12/2022 18:04

I like Juliet and Chloe from your girls list and Rowan and Henry from your boys list. Not hugely keen on any of the others really.

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/12/2022 18:05

Juliet, Frances, ChloƩ are great. Although I wouldn't bother with the accent in Chloe

Fraser , Henry are alright.
