Hi all - has anyone got experience with legally changing names? My husband and I have been married for 7 years and are expecting a baby. He wants to change his surname by deed poll (has talked about it since before we got married but never actioned it) As his wife, am I then able to use his new surname via marriage or do I legally have to change my name via deed poll as well?

Would you not just be easier to change both at the same time?

You'd need to change by deed poll, and your baby could have the new surname should you choose it. Your surname doesn't automatically change if your husband changes his by deed poll

You both need to change your surnames. You'll find guidance on www.gov.uk.

You would need to legally change yours. What surname do you have now? Your original maiden name?
