My 4 month old is called Avie and we pronounce 'Ay Vee'. Everyone who has seen her name written down says the same

This doesn’t make any sense. Both of your examples have a double consonant to get the short vowel. If they only had one consonant, like Avie, then it would be Abey to rhyme with baby and Lavy to rhyme with navy. To get the pronunciation you describe you would have to spell the name Avvie.
