I’d pronounce it Ay-vee

I'd pronounce it Ay-vee and assume it's a nickname for Ava.

PritiPatelsMaker · 17/12/2022 22:55

Agree with ackity, I'd rhyme it with gravy.

wishuponastar1988 · 17/12/2022 22:55

My 4 month old is called Avie and we pronounce 'Ay Vee'. Everyone who has seen her name written down says the same

MrsR87 · 17/12/2022 22:55

Ay-vee as in gravy

MuckyPlucky · 17/12/2022 22:57

Ay-vee (to rhyme with gravy).

Is it a combination of Ava and Evie?

Fivebeanchilli · 17/12/2022 23:09

To rhyme with navy

Fivebeanchilli · 17/12/2022 23:10

Using basic grammar rules that's the only pronunciation. If you wanted the a like apples then it would be to be Avvie.

JustCakeInDrag · 17/12/2022 23:16

Greeneyegirl · 17/12/2022 21:22

A. V
Aye Vee

That’s very confusing as ‘aye’ is pronounced ‘eye’ or ‘I’ and would make the name Ivy.

This.

The only Avie I know pronounces it to rhyme with navy.

DuchessOfSausage · 18/12/2022 14:27

Av-y. Like Abbey. Rhymes with Lavvy

Av-y. Like Abbey. Rhymes with Lavvy

This doesn’t make any sense. Both of your examples have a double consonant to get the short vowel. If they only had one consonant, like Avie, then it would be Abey to rhyme with baby and Lavy to rhyme with navy. To get the pronunciation you describe you would have to spell the name Avvie.

Same for me. I've only known one, and it rhymed with navy.

maltesersarethedevil · 18/12/2022 21:42

I call my daughter this as a nickname for her actual name. We pronounce it

A-V like you would for the capital letters

Rauha · 18/12/2022 21:47

Doveyouknow · 17/12/2022 22:05

Ah vee like in Aviemore

Yes, I came to post exactly this.

Y7drama · 18/12/2022 21:52

Haven’t known any, but would pronounce it rhyming with navy

Bluebell2020 · 19/12/2022 07:36

Thanks so much everyone! We love the name and would automatically pronounce it Ay Vee like Evie with an A. I just wanted to check it wouldn't be very frequently mispronounced!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 19/12/2022 07:38

I'd say it how you directed me to say it
Instinctively I'd say Ah-vay unless told otherwise

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 19/12/2022 11:52

ah vee

rumbypumby · 19/12/2022 11:59

Ah vee
Like Aviemore

Blueduvet22 · 19/12/2022 16:53

Ah - vee

CloudyDreamerZZZ · 19/12/2022 16:55

Ah-vee like the place Aviemore

Kokeshi123 · 20/12/2022 00:13

To rhyme with Gravy.
I know you didn’t ask for opinions, but it will blur into a sea of Evies, Avas, Averies, Everlys and Edies, and be pronounced and spelled like one of them half the time.

cardboardbox24 · 20/12/2022 00:15

I know two Avies and neither seem to have any problems with people mispronouncing their name

xprincessxjanetx · 20/12/2022 01:40

Ay - Vee
