I like them.both. perhaps Esmé is a bit more contemporary (accent might be omktted) while Amelia less faddy?

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2022 20:12

Quite like them both. Very overused though.

PeaceJoySleep · 16/12/2022 20:13

They are both lovely but my 19 year old daughter knows a few amelias and a couple of Esmes so I think that a forty year old Esme / Amelia could be assumed to be a 60 something if that matters at all perhaps it doesn't! My own name is more typical of an older generation so perhaps I'm sensitive to that.

bellalou1234 · 16/12/2022 20:14

Esme amelia as a middle name. Although I love amelia too and nn millie. So no help, sorry

Purplemagnolias · 16/12/2022 20:17

Both very popular, if that bothers you

Doingmybest12 · 16/12/2022 20:18

Love Esme, also Inez is similar ?

RambamThankyouMam · 16/12/2022 20:27

Esme.

Amelia is a medical condition meaning no limbs.

lovechickencrisps · 16/12/2022 20:33

Love Esmeralda with Esme for short but it's a bit fussy.
What about Amelie?

ChristmasJingleBalls · 16/12/2022 22:10

Amelia but they’re both sooo overused.

AutumnCrow · 16/12/2022 22:16

I think they are both lovely names.

'Overused'? Really? Goodness.

Figgypudding123 · 17/12/2022 09:27

Esme

MoggyMittens23 · 17/12/2022 15:18

If I had to pick then Amelia but agree about it being overused, or rather, very popular

Purplemagnolias · 17/12/2022 22:13

They are definitely overused and a little dull as a result

Snoopystick · 17/12/2022 22:15

Amelia and ‘shorten’ to Millie

ReluctantLondoners · 17/12/2022 22:16

Esme

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/12/2022 22:41

Neither, for the same reasons as other posters.

Esmeralda, though, is pretty cool. Gives you Zelda as a nickname as well.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/12/2022 22:43

Though, if you're set on one of those, go for Amelia. Esme you have the pronunciation issue (is it Ez-Me or Ez-May or Es-may...) and the do you put an accent on or not... Too much hassle for a not particularly exciting name.

Love the suggestion of Inez up thread!

Purplemagnolias · 17/12/2022 22:47

Esmeralda nickname Zelda is super cool!

crossstitchingnana · 17/12/2022 23:05

I have an adult Amelia. Beautiful name.

MoggyMittens23 · 18/12/2022 20:33

Amelia is a name of a birth defect which means no limbs. I only found this out the other day. Although that's not well known so don't think anyone would ever link it to that! Just thought I'd share my trivia!

Mumof1andacat · 18/12/2022 20:41

Both over used

urbanbuddha · 18/12/2022 20:51

Esmé is lovely.

If it matters
Esmé is 46th most popular girls name

Amelia is 2nd I’m really surprised by that - I don’t know any!!

CharitySchmarity · 18/12/2022 22:52

I like Amelia better out of the two but I don't love it.

Postgraddope · 18/12/2022 22:54

Esme

LulooLemon · 18/12/2022 23:51

Esme would be my choice, but only if pronounced Ez-mee ('mee' sound, not 'may')
