The adult one I know says Roo-bin but I’ve also heard it pronounced more like Roo-bun. How do you say it?

@KnickerlessParsons , Due and Dew rhyme with Hugh and Pew.
Roo rhymes with Who and Poo

Roo-bin and Roo-bun and Roo-Ben and Roo-buhn and Roob-schwa-n all sound the same to me.

Yes! Not kangaroo though.

Pronouncing Helen Hell-in isn’t an affectation, it’s an accent

Which one?

RPish - it’s quite common in London, SE, near SW - so to say Eleanor as El-lin-uh rather than El-un-uh or Medicine as Med-cin rather than Med-sun

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/12/2022 12:25

Possibly other accents as well, of course.

FayCarew · 02/12/2022 12:53

Kangaroo rhymes with poo, not with pew, or do but not due/dew

I say Helen as Hellun and Medicine as Medsin

Roo-b'n. Stress on first syllable.

Same.

I pronounce Reuben like Robin, but with an "oo" instead of an "aw."
