Balthazar or Balto for short... Do we like it?

OP posts:

I love it. It's unusual, but because of its association people will be able to spell it without a problem.

I actually love The Magi and their story, so that adds to it for me.

I love it. I had a crush on Balthazar Getty back in the day. Also makes me think of The Neverending Story- Bastian Balthazar Bux.
I'm an eighties kid

Love that film

PrimarilyParented · 30/11/2022 20:13

I love it but wouldn’t ever use it I’m afraid (and not because I go for safe, traditional sort of names, but because I think it does have a lot of negative connotations for people). I loved Balthazar in Charmed.

Balto Foot Ointment

Smartiepants79 · 30/11/2022 20:15

Is it not one of the three wise men??
I wouldn’t and it would make me do this 🤨 if I came across it.
Its not awful. Just a bit try hard. I’m not into ‘yoonique’ names.

LSSG · 30/11/2022 20:17

I like it, OP! But I think Balto is awful I'm afraid. So I think it falls down by not having a decent shortening. I know it's not essential to shorten a name, but having a three sylllable name myself, I know that people just do. I hear them struggling with the the three syllables!

HamBone · 30/11/2022 20:18

It’s very dignified, not sure about Balto as a nickname, the “o” doesn’t really match.

My personal test is would I want to be called this name myself? If you think you’d be comfortable with Balthazar yourself and wouldn’t be teased by other children too much, go for it. That’s how I got my DH to eliminate some of his name suggestions ( and my DC are relieved).😂

We three kings of orient are...

Greyphoto · 30/11/2022 20:19

First thought was I’m sure he was a demon in charmed

gamerchick · 30/11/2022 20:19

Ah I miss charmed Grin

gogohmm · 30/11/2022 20:19

Balto was the name of the hero dog which inspired the Iditarod. Great story for kids btw, we bought the book in Alaska but I'm sure others stock it.

As a human name - no

purplecorkheart · 30/11/2022 20:20

I actually like the name but honest would not give it to a child. The teasing and bullying they would get would be awful and I think it would be cruel to put it on them. Sorry

RandomMusings7 · 30/11/2022 20:20

We hate it.

Too clunky and biblical

Nancienoo · 30/11/2022 20:20

Who remembers a film called balto about the dog going to collect the Medicine? Anyone

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/11/2022 20:28

Nancienoo · 30/11/2022 20:13

Love that film

I hear there's going to be a remake...

I remember being little in front of the gas fire watching this….. not a care in the world take me back !!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 30/11/2022 20:34

I love the name. One of my kids said he'd call his son this (he's a teenager so hopefully won't be happening for a long while!) Better than my other son who said he'd name his son Roger. Grin

Pleasebeafleabite · 30/11/2022 20:36

And here he is Buffy lovers

JulesJules · 30/11/2022 20:39

Cat name as others have said

toastofthetown · 30/11/2022 20:39

It's thoroughly unappealing to me. I can't find a single good thing to say about it (and I like long unusual boys names - I'm not one of those posters who thinks all boys should be called George and Edward)

ConnieTucker · 30/11/2022 20:44

this is my idea of Balthazar

ShakeYourFeathers · 30/11/2022 20:50

I actually really like it

Lots of options for nick names and different

Batinthehouse · 30/11/2022 21:04

I love it, wasn't brave enough to use it though!

Beamur · 30/11/2022 21:09

Very festive

WimpoleHat · 30/11/2022 21:10

No. I’m now singing “We three kings of Orient are….”. It will forever have that connection for me.
