Lucia (pronounced Loo-see-ah) or Louisa, which do you prefer? Thanks.

Thanks all. I should probably clear up I'm not Spanish or Italian, just plain old English. Perhaps using Lucia would be a bit silly?

Not at all!! If you love it go for it. Common sense would be if you met a British/English couple and their daughter Lucia then they are highly likely to be pronouncing it Loo see ah. That’s my opinion anyway and how I read it first and I spent half my life living in Spain and some time in Italy too 🤷🏼‍♀️

toastofthetown · 28/11/2022 18:19

I prefer Louisa of the three. Lucia has several correct pronunciations and all things being equal, I'd try to avoid that. And while it's the nicest of the Luc- variants, the proximity to the very wet Lucy puts me off. If you keep falling in and out of love with Anna, I'd strike it from the list if there are names both of you agree on which you like more.

Pemba · 28/11/2022 18:20

Not silly at all, it's getting popular over here I think.

Childcare101 · 28/11/2022 18:23

Beautiful names although Anna least favourite. I don't think I would name my daughter Lucia unless I had Latin roots.

Pemba · 28/11/2022 18:37

But Lucia is also a traditional British name, alongside Lucy. But with the 'loo-sha' pronunciation as in the island of St Lucia.

In the same way there is Mary and Maria, Eve and Eva, Clare and Clara, Anne and Anna, Rose and Rosa, Helen and Helena. Etc.

Fivebeanchilli · 28/11/2022 18:42

I really like all three.
Louisa would probably be my top pick as it feels the least popular and most "classy".
Lucia is pretty but I think most people in the UK will use the -ch pronunciation. I actually prefer the -s pronunciation but I think it would get annoying.
Anna is lovely but popular.

cptartapp · 28/11/2022 19:00

Louisa. Less try-hard.

villamariavintrapp · 28/11/2022 19:24

Louisa, but they're all lovely.

Sandysandwich · 28/11/2022 19:31

Anna, it is sort of a little black dress name, in that it suits everyone and works for any situation. Any type of person could be Anna

Enko · 28/11/2022 19:37

Louisa. But Lucia is pretty. Anna is boring imo

NoCoatAndFurKnickers · 28/11/2022 19:37

Louisa

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/11/2022 19:39

I know several Lucians / Lucianos with a 'lou-chee' sound so I really struggle with Lucia being a 'lou-see' sound.

Louisa is very pretty.

RuthW · 28/11/2022 21:57

Louisa. Too many ways to say Lucia.

I have a friend Lucia (loo-see-a)

Gingersnappy · 28/11/2022 22:00

Lucia

Laurakiaora · 28/11/2022 22:58

My daughter is named Anna and for my second due soon Lucia is currently our front-runner (with the pronunciation you've chosen).

MichaelAndEagle · 28/11/2022 23:02

I really like the name Louisa

Timefornew · 28/11/2022 23:03

My DGD is called Lucia with the soft ‘c’ sound. I think it is lovely. Also the meaning ‘light’ is beautiful.

Wrongsideofpennines · 28/11/2022 23:09

Louisa. But I also like Anna.

I would pronounce Lucia with a ch sound in the middle and I wouldn't want my child to have to repeatedly correct. I spend my entire life correcting the vowel at the end of my name - think Louise/Louisa - so may be worth baring that in mind too.

DramaAlpaca · 28/11/2022 23:18

Louisa, it's beautiful.

I like Anna very much too.

Not so keen on Lucia.

NotABeliever · 28/11/2022 23:42

Louisa
Then Anna
Lucia is not my favourite because I never know how to pronounce it.

Lmorgann · 29/11/2022 03:46

Perhaps address the original posters question.
"Lucia or Louisa"
She never asked for suggestions of other names, so why is everyone going off on a tangent, talking to eachother, and ignoring the OP question?

It's definitely a Lucia for me.
Not an Anna, a Kristina, a violet, or even a Mary, cos that's not what the OP asked.

Lmorgann · 29/11/2022 03:51

There was never "All three" asked.
She asked between the two, either Lucia, or Louisa.
The third came from peoples comments, which was never an option in the OP, so that's completely null, and void.

Pictograph · 29/11/2022 04:32

@Lmorgann Read the OP's second post, in which she adds the third option.

shasha21 · 29/11/2022 05:03

Love Lucia and Louisa but find Anna very dull.
