We have a gorgeous four year old little boy, Nico. We adore his name. Baby girl is due end of February and we have been set on Nola ever since we were having Nico really it's always been our girls name. But now we're concerned it may be too similar to Nico? What do you all think? Thanks guys x

Nola just reminds me of the abbreviated name for New Orleans.

I love the name Nico but together Nico and Nola sound a bit like a folk duo from the 1970s.

PAFMO · 28/11/2022 13:26

I was going to say it sounds like the latest cbeebies show tbh.

@PAFMO hahahah!! That made me laugh. So gutted but they are just too similar and rhymey aren't they 😭 we'll come up with something🤞🏽

I'm not sure I understand the need to worry about how a sibling's name sounds against older brothers or sisters? You're naming an individual who will go through his/her life with their name as a singular person. Yes there's a period of time when you will more likely refer to them together, but this is just when they're very young. I can't remember the last time mine and my brothers names were said together. So no, I don't think slightly rhyming with Nico is a reason not to use Nola. If you love Nola, then use it. I think you'll regret it if you don't (and for what it's worth, I think it's a lovely name, but that's not the point - it's what you want and love that matters!)

Nico and Nola are too similar and sound like a tongue twister when said together!

I'd choose another name for dd

elgreco · 28/11/2022 14:05

How about Nuala pronounced Noo la. T gets rid of the oh sound.

That's exactly what I thought!

Nico and Lola rolls off the tongue easier than trying to say Nico and Nola together.

fairycupcakes · 28/11/2022 14:29
