I knew a Cisa when younger but was chatting to a mutual friend and realised that I've never heard the name before or since. Purely out of interest, has anybody else?

I personally never have, no. Just hearing it out loud, it sounds kind of like a virus to me

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/11/2022 20:40

No I've not. How is it pronounced

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 25/11/2022 20:42

No.

YourBestie · 25/11/2022 20:42

No!

Strangely I have to agree - I was thinking it sounded like a virus and my brain must have read Cisa and thought Zika 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry OP, it’s not nice at all.

I know a Cesca, short for Francesca. Never come across Cisca.

Tezza1 · 25/11/2022 20:46

I would assume it was some weird version of Caesar.

Dalekjastninerels · 25/11/2022 20:46

Cisa?

Pronounced to rhyme with Lisa?

Keep as a middle name if you are very tempted; do not use as a first name.

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/11/2022 20:48

Not sure if it sounds more like an Eastern Europe credit card company, OR a cheap little high street supermarket from the 1980s. But it's dreadful. Sorry @Abs0luti0n Sad

Yes it sounds exactly like Caesar.

Abs0luti0n · 25/11/2022 20:53

Yes it's pronounced Kee-sa to rhyme with Lisa. I'm not actually pregnant or planning to be, but I thought here would be a perfect place to ask! I don't know how I feel about it really, I didn't even realise I'd never heard it before or since the other day!

If its pronounced Keesa, why not spell it just like that???

Much easier than trying to guess if Cisa is Caesar, Sisa, Kissa or something else? My initial thought was something about cis gender. (I was doing equality training today!)

I would say as a first name no way; as a middle name if you like it.

I like tradtional names though.

My imaginary children are called Henrietta Jacinta and Frederick William Grin

Sounds like a bank account to me. We already have ISAs and LISAs and now Cisa too???

Yes, I thought Visa.

tickticksnooze · 25/11/2022 21:13

Yeh I also thought it sounded like a savings product. And wouldn't have said it with a hard K sound.

mishl · 28/11/2022 00:32

I've never heard of it before but apparently it appears in Germanic mythology.

GlassDeli · 28/11/2022 01:02

Looks like Cis a. So I'd be avoiding that one.

TerraNostra · 28/11/2022 22:22

That pronounciation doesn't follow English rules of spelling, you would not get a hard "c" before an "i".
