Hi! We have settled on the first name Irene. We are trying to come up with a middle name now, and we like Elizabeth but we aren’t too sure it flows well. Any suggestions?

It’s really pretty! I think Elizabeth goes fine really, and it will hardly ever be used all together. She will be ‘Irene Jones’ or ‘Irene Thompson’ most of the time, so I’d say her first and last name together and make sure they flow rather than worrying about the first and middle.

I really like Irene, I think it’s due a comeback.

Beautiful name

We had an Irene Elsie in our family. (Born 1917; Irene with 3 syllables, always Renie)

Purpleavocado · 24/11/2022 17:45

It's lovely.

Irene with 3 syllables is lovely and due a come back.

It goes fine with Elizabeth and it’s a nice name for a baby born this year.

Elizabeth sounds nice with it to me!

Is it pronounced i-reen or i-rennie? (Not sure how to phonetically spell out my second version properly! Hopefully you know the pronunciation I mean!)

fairycupcakes · 24/11/2022 22:37

Eye reen or Eye reen ee?

I prefer the second pronunciation. Elizabeth goes fine with it :) Also love the suggestion of Irene Alexandra

Firebird83 · 24/11/2022 22:43

I’ve been thinking for a while that Irene should make a comeback. Fits in with Iris and Ivy which are already back.

spearmintbubble · 24/11/2022 22:44

Eye-reen, as it’s the way it’s pronounced in our family. I do like the other pronunciation though. Sorry I should’ve mentioned the pronunciation before!

Irene is gorgeous.

I get what you mean about not quite flowing with Elizabeth. It almost does, but it's just not quite right, by a smidge.

Irene Adelaide?
Irene Felicity?
Irene Susannah?

alotoftutus · 24/11/2022 23:14

I think it flows really well. I imagine with the passing of the Queen, Elizabeth will be up there with rose grace and may for middle names for a while.

fairycupcakes · 24/11/2022 23:45

@spearmintbubble Lovely. In that case I do really like Irene Alexandra!

my suggestion for you would be Irene Lucille.

spearmintbubble · 25/11/2022 09:54

I do like the sound of Irene Alexandra!
