We are Persian heritage but born and raised in Uk, as our baby will be. For girls names I love Artemis/artemisia but if you didn’t know we were Persian i think you’d think we were just a bit pretentious? Or maybe you’d think that anyway.
what do you think? Or do you have any other suggestions?

It's a lovely name and I don't find it pretentious at all.

frozengoose · 21/11/2022 13:43

I think it is a lovely name OP.
If it works for you then go for it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/11/2022 14:19

It’s my niece’s middle name and I wish they’d used it as a first name!

Orphlids · 21/11/2022 15:13

I wouldn’t think you were pretentious, I’d think you were probably quite exciting! Fabulous name. Strong and pretty at the same time.

EvelynBeatrice · 21/11/2022 15:19

It’s a beautiful name. I know a little Greek Cypriot girl called Artemis. Her British relatives (with the agreement of her parents!) call her ‘Temmy’ sometimes. I think Temmy was the name of one of the female characters in a Doris Day movie ( song went ‘ Temmy, Temmy, Temmy’s in love…’). Both the name and any possible abbreviation are lovely.

I know an Artemis - it is an absolutely GORGEOUS name.

GlassDeli · 21/11/2022 16:01

It's a lovely name but I do also think it's a tad pretentious. Not that I'd say so IRL, of course.

RowanAtkinsonsRubberyFace · 21/11/2022 16:07

Nice, l never met one. Wouldn't have a clue of its origins or which country it might derive from. Makes me think of the character in ready player 1. I like her nickname Arty as well.

vix3rd · 21/11/2022 16:08

You may find that folk will ask if you're big Artemis Fowl fans.

Mirabai · 21/11/2022 16:17

One of all time favourite names.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 21/11/2022 16:21

It's a lovely name. People potentially thinking it's pretentious is their issue but I think you're right that people are less likely to think this with your Persian background. Artemis Shirvani or Artemis Rahimi sound quite poetic. Artemis Brown (also lovely!) is more likely to get suspicions that her parents are being a bit highfalutin.

glasshole · 21/11/2022 16:24

Absurdly beautiful make and I would make my daughter Artemis in a heartbeat ( but thankfully no more kids for me!)

Lmgify · 21/11/2022 16:26

I really like it, it’s also the name of the current space mission

maddy68 · 21/11/2022 16:26

I had the loveliest boy iny class called Artem. I associate it with him. It's lovely

toastofthetown · 21/11/2022 18:56

I love both Artemis and Artemisia. I wouldn't see it as pretentious at all.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 21/11/2022 19:00

I like it but I do immediately think 'Fowl'

Mirabai · 21/11/2022 21:20

I immediately think Greek goddess.

Bideshi · 21/11/2022 21:23

My daughter - she's 47
Not many of them around in those days.

Dreamingcats · 21/11/2022 21:43

I like it. I'd wonder if you were Greek.

User6761 · 21/11/2022 23:44

I've taught one - she's early 20s now and from an English family as far as I know. One of the more unusual names I've come across.

Byelaws · 21/11/2022 23:47

I know a dog called Artemis.

it’s a lovely name.

stillsmilingtoday · 21/11/2022 23:47

Great name! Ready Player One is a brilliant film too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/11/2022 01:55

I like Artemis a lot. And Artie is a sweet nn.

Artemisia is Ok, it makes me think of the artist.

Longdarkcloud · 22/11/2022 21:57

That movie song was “Tammy” .

Longdarkcloud · 22/11/2022 21:58

If I was still having children I’d be tempted to use Artemis, a good strong name.
