Names I've been thinking about this week. DH likes Sarah but I knew quite a few growing up. I know she'd likely be the only one while she's at nursery/in school/at uni but later in the workplace she will still encounter lots of older Sarahs.

Sarah
Maria
Gwen
Peony
Alice
Sophie
Valentine

Valentine and Peony are probably too out there so they are simply names I find interesting, not names for our list. Gwendolyn was on our list but just never looked right to me but Gwen sort of feels too short? Wondering if Maria is a bit boring.

Maria is my favourite

Do you have a boys list?

cavily1806 · 19/11/2022 12:50

Sophie, then Alice

user1471499545 · 19/11/2022 12:51

Alice is beautiful

BorsetshireBanality · 19/11/2022 12:58

All the names except Peony

Yes, I already posted it a while ago and it hardly ever changes which is more boring but also more reassuring in a way because we feel we have some names that we're somewhat sure about.

The girls names are more difficult because our list always changes. We have had some names on it since the beginning such as Isabella but I'm never 100% sure of them either because when something more exciting comes along I feel like picking that but then again a few weeks later I often don't like it anymore which is a bit scary.

Alice 1000%

ThatshallotBaby · 19/11/2022 12:59

I love Valentine.
Valentine Alice is a beautiful name.

HairyToity · 19/11/2022 12:59

Gwen is my favourite

TalkisChips · 19/11/2022 12:59

Oh I really like Sarah! It would be nice to hear that in the playground rather than the endless Ava/Evie/Amelia/Ella/Lily/Islas.

We have a couple of Laura’s at my DC’s school which I think is nice.

I find Maria and Sophie dull, sorry. Also Sophie is sooo popular.

Not keen on Valentine at all. Or Peony. Which would get shortened to Pee. Not great.

I know a little Gwendolyn known as Gwen.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/11/2022 13:05

Valentina (I know a man called Valentine).

I love Alice and Sophie but they were very popular 25 years ago and may be a bit like calling a child Sylvia or Shirley in the 1960s. I think Alice is more of a classic than Sophie.

Have you thought about:

Clara
Megan
Verity
Susannah
Meriel
Marnie
Louisa

DotDotDotDotDot · 19/11/2022 13:17

Wouldn’t Valentine be the masculine version and Valentina the feminine?
The others are all just fine, not massively exciting as far as names go but all inoffensive.

JustMaggie · 19/11/2022 13:24

I think Maria is a beautiful name

fjäl · 19/11/2022 13:25

Alice or Sophie. Peony is quite pretty but not sure if the world is ready for it as a name yet. Sarah is dull as ditchwater. Gwen is not quite granny chic.

Valentine is a male name. Valentina is beautiful though.

Fifthtimelucky · 19/11/2022 13:29

I agree that Valentine is a male name. I have known two. I have also known a female Valentina, which is lovely.

Personally I'd go for Sarah, Alice or Sophie.

Maria is OK.

Don't like Gwen or Peony at all.

midsomermurderess · 19/11/2022 13:46

Alice, for all its elegant simplicity

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 19/11/2022 13:59

Maria! Beautiful, strong, classic. Never met a bad one.

hodgehedge · 19/11/2022 14:00

Maria is gorgeous. I would have liked to use it myself. Closely followed by Alice. Not a fan of the rest, sorry.

Yep. Valentina would be the proper feminine version. I think it’s lovely.

cobblers123 · 19/11/2022 14:03

Sophie is nice not keen on the other names but I'd prefer Alicia to Alice.

TenPointsFromHufflepuff · 19/11/2022 14:08

Have you considered Sara? I do like Sarah best but Sara is beautiful imo, but was slightly pedestrian in my youth.

caitlinrose · 19/11/2022 14:17

Valentine is a proper girls name too. There's a female Valentine in "Ender's Game". I personally prefer it on a girl.

Alice all the way, I know a four year old Alice and she is brilliant

whattodo2019 · 19/11/2022 14:21

My favs in order-

Sophie
Peony
Alice
Sarah
Maria
Gwen

Valentine- boys name

maroonhaze · 19/11/2022 14:23

Alice is lovely.

I kind of like Peony but not sure I'd be brave enough.

Dreamingcats · 19/11/2022 14:25

Sarah - love. Is on my list.
Maria - like
Gwen - ok but prefer Gwendoline.
Peony - dislike. I don't think it's a nice sound.
Alice - nice but I know too many
Sophie - very nice. I know a lot but might still use it because I like it so much.
Valentine - to me is a boy's name.
