Katherine because it is a stand alone girls name.

Katherine, if you are likely to shorten it to Kate or Kitty, Catherine if likely to shorten it to Cathy.
Alexandra will get shortened - Alex is so popular as a boy's name, I dislike Alexa and Lexi, Sandy and Sasha are nice.

Strong, elegant name. Actually they're both good, but I prefer Alexandra.

One of these is my own name, and the other one is a name I gave to my doll when I was 4 and still love now!

So in my opinion you can't go wrong.

For me it would come down to what initials they would make with the surname and which of the shortened versions you like the best. As they are both long names, you'll probably find both of them a bit much for a tiny baby or little girl and you'll end up shortening it to something or using a nickname. So if you don't like the nickname options for one of them, pick the other one.

DD is Alexandra, so that’s my vote, but if DC2 was a daughter Katherine was on my list.
I picked it because of the masses of shortening options - Allie, Alex, Alexa, Andie, Lexie, Sandie, Sandra, Sasha, Xandie, Xandra.

I prefer Alexandra. It has more sparkle to it somehow. Katherine seems a bit more dowdy.

Really not a fan of Katherine, William, Charlotte type names. The royal family seem to be fans though!
