This is my final choice and DH's. We can't choose as we're both sticking by our own favourite!

Please help us to choose

Ooh, they’re both really nice. Although I think they’re both beautiful, Aurora just wins for me, only because Theodore/Theo/Teddy is so so so so popular for boys. While Theodora isn’t popular for girls, the sound of Theo is still a bit overdone for me at the moment.

Aurora

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 10/11/2022 20:19

I once read a comment from someone about Aurora sounding like woar woar woar and it put me right off. I'm afraid I really dislike Theodora too, but at least it sounds nicer.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 10/11/2022 20:22

Aurora is beautiful, I think. Does the initial A go alright with your surname? Theodora is a bit of a mouthful, although Thea is nice and is a name on its own.

Chomolungma · 10/11/2022 20:22

Aurora- beautiful

OnABreeze · 10/11/2022 20:24

Theodora.

Aurora sounds like a reality TV star giving their child a tacky Princess name (sleeping beauty).

The initial goes well and we've agreed that names ending in A leading nicely into our surname too

Nickname will be Rory (I know this is a marmite nickname for girls but I love it! Gilmore girls fan 😆)

Theadora

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 10/11/2022 21:07

Theodore (Dora). Aurora is too Princess-y.

Cw112 · 10/11/2022 21:09

I love Teddy for a girl. I think it's really cute and I was sadly overruled on this by dh lol. So I'm team Theodora although both are really lovely names.

I also love Teddy! Then again I love loads of nicknames that you can get from Theodora (giving away which of the names is my favourite). Dottie, Dory, Dora, Theo, Thea, Teddy... the list goes on!

I like Aurora and love Disney but can only think of Rory as a nickname and as a family we're big on nicknames!

I'm also put off by the rising popularity of Aurora - and is it a bit (dare I say) chavvy? 😳

Aurora nickname Rory
Theodora nickname Teddy

I love them both equally just for those two nicknames.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/11/2022 23:32

Theodora

I like the gift of god meaning, also they are both v popular and Theodora has many nns, which she might appreciate.

… I do think Aurora has gone a bit downmarket yes, which is another reason to go with Theodora which is more generally popular

Spookypig · 11/11/2022 05:31

Theodora for me

QueenVictoria11 · 11/11/2022 05:34

Definitely Theodora.
Beautiful name.

Lots of short options too - Thea, Dora, Teddy.

CantSleepCountingSheep · 11/11/2022 06:01

Much prefer Thea!

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 11/11/2022 06:06

Theodora is lovely. I do like Aurora but yes to possibly getting a bit what a reality star might call their kid.
Random side note - I know it's actually Dear Theodosia (song from Hamilton) but I totally started singing it in my head when I read your thread and you could totally sing it to them - such a beautiful song!

KirstenBlest · 11/11/2022 07:25

I'm not keen on either. Aurora is tricky if you can't say R, and Theodora is too long, too similar to Theodore, and not keen on Thea.

ChristmasJumpers · 11/11/2022 07:42

Thanks all, I do generally prefer names outside of the top 100 but feel like I've taken total control of our names list so far so want to be able to compromise. I at least do like Aurora if I ignore the popularity (56th compared to Theodora's 387th).

Side note, we're up north but both have fairly neutral accents, family not so neutral. I'm going to need to hear them saying both names out loud first aren't I 🤭

I love Aurora!

Lulanna · 12/11/2022 17:35

Theodora - much more classic and I love all of the possible NN’s.

Or if you really can't decide together - compromise - Isadora

VickerishAllsort · 12/11/2022 17:40

Another vote here for Theodora. Aurora sounds very prissy, and Theodora has so many options.
I tried to suggest it for DSs new baby, but they'd already picked a name.
