Help! Registered name but doubts!

Hi all. I have really struggled to identify a girls name I’m completely happy with for my second daughter. Eldest is called Frida and I still love her name. Registered Emilia Iris Florence but concerned about the popularity of Amelia and Emilia plus the unknown aspect of nickname etc. We like Iris which goes nicely with Frida but the surname is double barrel and first surname ends in ‘is’ … repetition of the ‘is’ is putting me off and my partner thinks I’ve over thought it. Iris has meaning as this is my second rainbow baby. Thoughts? Thx a mil!

Oh bless you, I do agree with you though about Amelia and Emilia popularity - how about changing to Amelié - I feel this is a little less “common” than the other two?
Amelié Iris Florence is lovely.

I do really love Iris. Would you consider maybe changing them around so: Iris Emilia Florence or Iris Florence Emilia?

Frida is really different to other names out there at the moment though so maybe look at something like…

Vivienne
Josephine
Winona
Greta
Ingrid
Esther
Valerie

Thanks so much for your thoughts. What do you think about Iris next to Lewis? Given I can’t identify a name I’m completely happy with/ without issue, maybe I need to compromise and not over think the ‘is’ repetition.

I like Iris, and I agree it goes better with Frida. I think Iris Lewis is fine, actually. Emilia and the sound-alikes are a bit blah by comparison.

Jamimas · 06/11/2022 16:01

Emilia is indeed overused and a little dull.

Iris is lovely

PurBal · 06/11/2022 16:04

I actually know an Iris but not a single Emilia. But you should go with what you love.

CastleTower · 06/11/2022 16:04

I wouldn't go for Iris Lewis, but double barrelled (e.g. Iris Lewis-Jones) sounds much better, because the whole thing doesn't rhyme.

I would call her Iris (though Emilia is lovely too).

Glitterbiscuits · 06/11/2022 16:05

I don't know any Emilias. I think it's lovely, a classic

NSJM11 · 06/11/2022 16:10

Thanks everyone. I’ve drove myself insane past 2.5 months (only registered a few days ago as kept pushing the apt back). I also considered, Aurelia, Eliza and Violet. Tbh I haven’t found a single name I 100% love. Leaning towards amending the birth certificate so Iris is first name. Appreciate the feedback on the surname. Hopefully if I stick with calling her one name it will start to feel right (she’s had loads) x

They are all nice names, but I don’t think the double s in Iris Lewis is good. Iris is also as popular as Emilia.

So I’d either go for Emilia, or for Florence if you want something less common.

Longdarkcloud · 06/11/2022 17:50

I think I’d just stick with the registered name.
Even if you change it at this point you will continue to have doubts because you are still not convinced the Iris Lewis combination is quite right.
Personally, I agree with the other poster that it is fine once the double barrelled complete surname is combined with Iris.
Emilia is in my opinion a softer, prettier name.
How about leaving it as it is and if you later want to change just use her second (Iris) name is stead of Emelia?

KirstenBlest · 06/11/2022 17:52

Iris Lewis-Something is fine.
Emilia is nice but gets mixed up with Amelia, which I don't like. The Emelia spelling is awful.

AliBaliBears · 06/11/2022 18:00

I love Iris. Not personally a fan of Amelia/Emilia but nothing wrong with them and obviously a lot of people like them (I think I just prefer 2 syllable names).
Iris Lewis-Name sounds good to me.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/11/2022 17:14

They are all nice names, but I don’t think the double s in Iris Lewis is good. Iris is also as popular as Emilia.

So I’d either go for Emilia, or for Florence if you want something less common.

Florence is top ten so I think you’ll have the same problem as Emilia there. Iris is a lovely name and has meaning for you but will the sound repetition bother you too much since you’ve already noticed it?

I went through exactly the same so sending hugs. It’s really hard when you can’t find a name you love as much as your first.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 07/11/2022 08:59

I don’t think you’re considering it but a pp suggested Amelié and that isn’t a name. If it were it would be pronounced a-mell-ee-ay. The French name is Amélie.

Lots of people go by their middle names, OP. See if Iris suits. You have until she is one to amend her BC so no massive rush.

Finally, and very gently, fixating on a name or having serious name regret can sometimes be a sign of PND. Please talk to someone if you find that you are really fixated on this.

TempsPerdu · 07/11/2022 10:14

Sorry you’re struggling OP. Naming a whole new person does feel like a big responsibility, especially if you want it to ‘fit’ with an existing sibling name.

My twopenny’s worth is that I absolutely love Frida, but agree with pps that Emilia, while perfectly fine as a name, has quite a different style and doesn’t feel quite as special or strong as your DD’s name. Iris, while also popular, does seem to fit better, and I love the goddess and rainbow connections. Iris Lewis-? sounds fine to me - the second part of the double barrel would take away some of the emphasis on the S sounds.

But don’t rush into anything; DD2 is still tiny, and as a pp said you have time to mull on it a little longer to ensure you’re making the right decision. Good luck!

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 07/11/2022 11:31

OP I love Frida and while I'd love to reassure you here I'd feel similarly about Emilia/Amelia, it's just not in the same league!

Like Iris with Frida but agree it's not the best with surname.

What made you go off Eliza? To me it's the best one you've mentioned.

OnABreeze · 07/11/2022 11:45

Is their full name going to be Emilia Iris Florence SURNAME-SURNAME?

If so, my opinion would be that is a very long name. I don't think the "-is" is an issue.

MissLC · 07/11/2022 11:52

How about just shortening Emilia? I really love the name Emme so could use that?
Alternatively Iris is a beautiful name and I don't think it sounds bad next to Lewis at all.

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 07/11/2022 11:54

I only know one Emilia - she goes by Mimi.

NSJM11 · 07/11/2022 15:21

Thanks for all the comments, food for thought :) Agree I shouldn’t rush to change unless certain on alternative.
Ideally I’d like a two syllable name which can’t be shortened easily. I do like Eliza but was concerned may end up being shortened to El or Liz in the future which I’m not so keen on. I guess you don’t always know what nn’s will develop… hence I think I’ve over thought it all. Keep thinking the perfect name is out there and I’ve somehow over looked it. Hasn’t helped trying to decide when sleep deprived either 😂 x

Emilia is lovely - a Shakespearean beauty (admittedly he used lovely Iris too!). Yes, there is the Emilia/Amelia thing, but I think what it comes down to is which YOU are most drawn to. I had baby name obsession/worry for ages after birth (and also gave my son a popular name) - but what swung it for me were two questions. If it turned out there wasn't another one in his year or even the school, would I regret not using it? And imagine it turned out you couldn't use it (another family member/close friend got there first) - how upset would you be, which name would you be more upset about?

34and3 · 09/11/2022 06:05

I have an Emilia and still think her name is so beautiful. She's 8 and the only one in her school. At home she goes by Emmy.
