Matilda, Adaline or Sabrina?

Any thoughts on these names?

Also opinions on best spelling for Adaline/Adeline/Adeleine? I like the look of the A spelling written down but generally prefer traditional spellings and don’t want it to potentially look made up.

Surname is two syllables starts with an R.

Middle name suggestions also welcome!

They are a bit much.

LOVE Adeline, spelled like this. Any other (incorrect) spelling spoils it.

Matilda would be nice but just so overdone.

Sabrina is okay. Nothing wrong with it, just doesn’t have a particularly nice sound to my ear.

How about Saskia?

I am so surprised to read this comment. They don’t seem a bit much to me at all? If anything all very normal, familiar, pretty and usable names.

Matilda

Adeline would be my preference on spelling. I know two baby Adeline’s and one baby Matilda. I think both as popular as each other right now. I really like them both. Im not a fan of Sabrina (even with the teenage witch connection aside).

Mathilda is a beautiful name .

Adeline is the traditional spelling. Adelina would be nice too.

I find Matilda a bit matronly.

Matilda and Adeline are equally lovely, but spelling might be an issue with Adeline.

Adaline / Adeline

I have a Matilda who is 6 now. It suits her so much and she loves it! We love all the short versions. My sis calls her Matty but she also gets Tilds, Tilda and as she gets older, she could choose Tilly too.

Surprised to read comments about it being common and overdone. There are only two Matilda's in the whole school, my daughter and another in Reception. We loved it because it was a bit different but still traditional.

I also like Adeline, but can see difficulties with spelling and pronunciation.

Adeline - beautiful name, I only know of one and she is lovely.

Matilda - love this and it's popularity seems to have subsided which is nice.

Sabrina - not a fan really. Prefer Serena but even then I prefer the first two names.

I pronounce Adeleine and Adelne like Madeleine without the M (ending in "Lin"). I would be more likely to assume Adaline was Add-a-line to rhyme with Mine. Or even Aid-a-line. I f that matters.

Sabrina is on our list, so I'd pick Sabrina!

I would avoid Adeline (this is the correct spelling as far as I know) because there are lots of girls called Maddie, Madeline, Madeleine, Ada etc.

Definitely spell it Adeline.

Of those three I prefer Sabrina

I have a 10 year old Adeline and we generally get positive comments. We pronounce it Add-a-line and this is what most people assume, we've had the occasional Add-a-lin but never leen. We went for the traditional spelling and again, most people spell it that way when they hear it. She is often Addie, sometimes Liney, and has decided she will be Della when she 'is a grown up'.

In terms of popularity, from your list Matilda is by far the most popular at number 28 in the 2021 stats. It has been in the top 100 for the last 17 years so you are likely to hear of a lot more Matildas than Sabrinas or Adelines. It is a lovely name though with a lot of nickname options.

Adeline is currently 355 in the charts but it has risen 200 places in the last 6 years so may have a bit of a moment in the next few years, especially given the popularity of Ada as well.

Sabrina is at 478 and has been there or thereabouts pretty much steadily for the last 20 years or so, having been in the top 200 around 1996.

Don't like Sabrina at all, sorry, but there's nothing specifically wrong with it, I just don't love the sounds in it.

I like both Matilda and Adeline (prefer that spelling), but maybe Adeline feels a bit fresher right now as there are quite a lot of little Matildas and Tillys.

Adeline and Sabrina are great, Matilda seems very popular at the moment which puts me off
