Thoughts on Tara Amelia?

Baby is due in four weeks and so far our shortlist of names is very short!

Tara Amelia as first and middle names - thoughts? First baby, no siblings.

Too many a. And it does sound a bit like Cilla Black saying goodbye.

allypike · 04/11/2022 16:20

I also think theres too many "a" sounds

ClocksGoingBackwards · 04/11/2022 16:21

They are both lovely names but they don’t fit together well. When you say it out loud it either sounds stilted if you say both names clearly or it sounds like TaRaRaMelia.

fdkc · 04/11/2022 16:23

Is it going to be a double barrelled name or is Amelia just a second name that nobody is ever going to hear?? If so I think Tara is lovely.

LeeHarper5 · 04/11/2022 16:28

Almost every class in my son’s school has an Amelia. I’ve never come across a Tara. I think they are both lovely names but I’d just use Tara everyday not double barreled.

ftm12 · 04/11/2022 16:32

Thanks, not intended to be double barreled. Any suggestions on a middle name?

Tara is lovely. I don't mind it with Amelia but DD1 has lots of 'a's in her full name and I like it!

Go with a family name for middle name(s), grandparents love it.

allypike · 04/11/2022 18:25

I think if you want to stick to something somewhat similar to Amelia, Tara Emmeline sounds really pretty!

sopeas · 04/11/2022 20:23

Oh Tara is lovely and not often heard at all these days! When I say this I thought how refreshing to hear - Lovely choice OP and congratulations ❤️

Amelia is also lovely but what about Tara Amelie? Maybe that flows better with one less a but I guess it depends on your surname too.

some other suggestions:

Tara Emily
Tara Juliet
Tara Chloé
Tara Elodie
Tara Elena (el ay na)
Tara Vivienne
Tara Sophia
Tara Blake
Tara Willow

@allypike suggestion of Tara Emmeline is beautiful!

Coconutcream123 · 04/11/2022 20:35

I like Tara Ameila :)

Spookypig · 05/11/2022 03:19

I really don’t like Amelia but Tara sounds fresh as it’s not used much these days, I like it. I can’t think of another middle name though!

DorianaAriana · 05/11/2022 03:31

I think it's pretty.

PinkSox · 05/11/2022 04:03

I don’t like either name. You probably won’t like my DC’s names.

If you like Tara Amelia go with it. The opinion of random strangers on the internet shouldn’t matter

RambamThankyouMam · 05/11/2022 07:05

Very '80s Sloane.

The two names don't sound good together.

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2022 11:03

Not keen on Amelia, but at least it's not a filler or single-syllable middle name

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/11/2022 12:54

I like Tara, you don’t get many of those these days

Tara Amelia sounds OK I think, but something with fewer ah sounds would be better - eg

Tara Caitlin
Tara Marianne

or if you want to ah endings at least something that doesn’t start with an a like Tara Serena

Dreamingcats · 05/11/2022 13:21

I like Tara. I don't think it matters if a middle name goes, but if it's not a meaningful name to you then might as well choose one that does go! Generally dislike names ending then starting with the same sound.

I think names starting with a hard constant flow best.

Tara Bettina
Tara Calypso
Tara Daphne
Tara Fay
Tara Harriet
Tara Jemima
Tara Katrina
Tara Leanne
Tara Noelle
Tara Penelope
Tara Quinn
Tara Rebecca
Tara Stormi
Tara Venus
Tara Xenia
Tara Zoe

soulinablackberrypie · 08/11/2022 11:41

I have nothing against both names individually, but think carefully about whether you'd mind the two "A"s together in the middle - people who don't like using a linking R will put a big, unnatural sounding pause in the middle, like they're saying Tara (hic!) Amelia.

hugefanofcheese · 08/11/2022 11:47

I wouldn't say they flow exquisitely but that's absolutely fine for a middle name that's rarely used aloud. If you love it, go for it.

A consonant (other than R) would be better after a vowel final first name in my view but honestly, it's not a deal breaker at all.

For some reason Tara Josephine or Tara Jacqueline spring to mind!

Snugglemonkey · 08/11/2022 11:48

I love the name Tara. I think a middle name beginning with a consonant would go best, but really, how often is a middle name even used. Go with Amelia if that is what you like.

Caughtupinsomething · 08/11/2022 11:52

I agree with pps, I don't think the two go together. I think with Tara ending with an 'a' the middle name needs to not also end this way. For instant Tara Amelie flows so much better, and in my opinion so pretty!

Too many a. And it does sound a bit like Cilla Black saying goodbye.
