Really love Clementine but husband has vetoed. Any favourites or other thoughts?

Philippa or Emma. The other two are lovely but seem a bit dated still to my eye.
What about Harriet as an alternative to Henrietta?
Emilia?
Emmalene/Emmelina?

LulooLemon · 02/11/2022 09:30

Camilla or Camille

CoffeeBeansGalore · 02/11/2022 09:35

Phillippa/Pippa is lovely. Hermione?

MyBuggyIsOutToGetMe · 02/11/2022 09:37

I love Henrietta! (Hettie maybe?). Camilla, perhaps with nickname Milla, is also nice. I think it sounds quite fresh, but of course there is the instant royal association.

Philippa is nice but I prefer Pippa, though that is not a name that travels well linguistically if that matters to you (ie if your DH is Italian and you plan on visiting Italy regularly, I’d avoid it).

Emma is a very versatile name, if that makes sense. Recognisable in most countries and cultures. Easy to pronounce. Virtually impossible to mis-spell. I’d say it’s also fairly classless.

If you like Clementine, how about Emmeline?

I’d also consider names like Madeleine, Annabelle, Gabrielle/Gabriella and Harriet.

SalviaOfficinalis · 02/11/2022 09:38

I wouldn’t go Camilla unless you’re a big fan of the royal family personally.

Emma is my favourite of your list.

toastedcat · 02/11/2022 09:41

I think Camilla is the nicest of those. Emma has always sounded boring to me. Had a lot of Emmas at school. Henrietta would sound quite fresh perhaps as I don't think it's very common at the moment?

Navyandgolden · 02/11/2022 09:42

Thanks everyone. I am a bit concerned about the Royal connection to Camilla. I have no issues with the Royals but certainly dont want to appear that I am naming DD after them!! I have also just found out about the Italian Pippa problem. We dont frequent Italy but it is sort of putting me off.

We want a relatively underused classic name. I really like Emma but its probably my least favourite because everyone knows an Emma. I really like it though. Hmm confusing!!

Not Queen Camilla or Pippa which is apparently as rude in Swedish as it is in Italian!

I don’t know any British Emmas under 30, so I don’t think it would be a common name in her age group. So could be a nice classic choice. Unless you’re American and then it’s so ubiquitous there for little girls that I’d avoid.

Henrietta is great and gets my vote. Hettie would be a cute NN too.

Pemba · 02/11/2022 09:50

I've heard that Pippa is a problem name in many countries, eg Sweden. Don't like Philippa much either. And Henrietta is so clunky, I much prefer Harriet.

Both Emma and Camilla are very pretty names, although Emma is probably a bit too popular and Camilla is tainted by the royal association. Camille? Emmeline?

Pemba · 02/11/2022 09:54

Or Anna instead of Emma? You can't go wrong with Anna, a classic timeless name.

Navyandgolden · 02/11/2022 09:55

Thanks for all the alternative suggestions.
Harrirt - I much prefer Henrietta.
Hermione - Icant get past the Harry Potter connection otherwise i really like.
Emilia - not sure how to prounounce - e-mil-ay-a? - that was DH issue with Clementine, the prounounciation problem.
Emmeline - really like this name but not enough.
Madeleine - quite popular
Annabelle - we considered Annabel but it didnt make the cut
Gabrielle/Gabriella - like these but not enough.

I'm due any day and love those names.
Philippa (pippa/pip) is in our top 3 girls names. I think it's a lovely strong name.
Also love Emma or Emily
Xx

Navyandgolden · 02/11/2022 09:57

Camille - we thought about this name but neither of us have European links and it felt a bit exotic

Just ideas - Felicity, Allegra, Juliette/Julietta.

Navyandgolden · 02/11/2022 10:05

@Geranium1984 so exciting!! All the very best xx

Felicity/Juliette/Julietta - dont like at all
Allegra - adding to the list

Emma

Thisisnotmyname2 · 02/11/2022 10:10

Love the nicknames for Henrietta so in your position I would probably choose that for the birth certificate and actually call her Hettie or Etta.

xPeaceX · 02/11/2022 10:11

Emma
Camilla

Not the other two. I've forgotten what they were already! I only remember they weren't great

LightHousePanda · 02/11/2022 10:16

I love Henrietta! I wish I could use it but I don't think it'd work in Scotland. Hettie is cute too.

CoastalWave · 02/11/2022 10:16

Minka?

You're obviously looking for a posh style name!

LulooLemon · 02/11/2022 10:29

Allegra is lovely

DuchessOfSausage · 02/11/2022 10:29

In order: Emma, Philippa, Henrietta/Camilla (not keen on either - too long and don't like the diminutives)

The Philippas I know are Phil, but one was Pippa from day 1.
Harriet nn Hattie is lovely.

Emilia is nice and I say it as Emmil-y-a, but many will say Em-eel-y-a, and some will write it as Amelia or Emelia, so i wouldn't use it

Juliet is nice but will get said as Julie-Ette as opposed to Ju-li-et (cf. Janet/Janette)

MoggyMittens23 · 02/11/2022 10:39

Camille is much nice than Camilla IMO and I love it

The others are ok

Rauha · 02/11/2022 10:46
