Brother for James

Notlong · 29/10/2022 22:14

What would James's brother be called?

Edward
Arthur
William
Samuel

Or something else? Can't use Alexander as that's James's middle name.

Those are all great names, and all go well with James. Edward is my favourite. I'd also suggest Robert, Benjamin and Henry.

Love all those suggestions, although would avoid Arthur (as lovely as it is) as it seems to be so popular.

Other suggestions:

Henry
Benjamin
Isaac
Oliver (although v popular like Arthur)
Finley
Joseph
Louis
Elijah
Joshua
Reuben

I think we must be the same person!

We also have a James. I wanted Alexander but it's DH's name and he wouldn't change his Grin

We are doing IVF and if we have another he will be Samuel, so my vote is for Samuel obviously.

Others on our list for our miraculously conceived identical twin boys (kidding..) are:

Elijah
Thomas
Adam

It cut me off. Also love Benjamin.

We have a James Alexander. Brother is Oliver William. Yes popular but really so is James!

Twizbe · 29/10/2022 22:26

I have a James. Had his sister been a brother he'd have been Frederick.

Fivebeanchilli · 29/10/2022 22:27

The Jameses I know almost all have sisters but the few with brothers have:

Oliver

I know brothers James and Samuel nn Sam, which I really like. Also know siblings James and Harry.

For some reason I struggle to say James and William easily together, but maybe that's just me!

They are all really lovely name. Not helpful but I love them all and they'd all go well with James.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/10/2022 23:18

With classic James I think you could go in two obvious directions for a brothers name - traditional Biblical, in which case Thomas would be my pick as it's perennially popular like James (always top 50 historically), but Samuel is very nice too.

Or fellow British Kings - in which case I'd pick William (again always top 50), but Edward would be a lovely choice as well.

I admit I instantly thought of William with James, but of your choices the only one I'd hesitate on is Arthur, despite the Kingly link . One of the lovely things about James is that it is so timeless (like William, Thomas etc are), whereas Arthur is unfortunately quite trendy again at the moment.
