Whats your opinions or rating? Not too fussed on the association to Roseanne Barr, she’s not known well where we are. Róisín is pronounced row-sheen where we are in Ireland.

Or Roslyn?

PurBal · 30/10/2022 07:25

I like both! I prefer Roseanna with an E.
Curveball: Rozenn?

AcrobaticCardigan · 30/10/2022 07:47

Definitely Róisín

DeeDeeDaisy · 30/10/2022 09:41

Roisin, definitely! I have always loved this name but I'm not Irish and we have no Irish connections do I don't think we could make it work

GlassDeli · 30/10/2022 10:09

Rosanne, Rosanna or Roxana

misteriosa · 30/10/2022 10:21

I really like Róisín, so I would choose it.

Roseanne seems rather mid-century to me - Rosanna is nicer. I'm from Northern Ireland and while I've definitely heard of Roseanne Barr, I doubt kids will be aware of her.

I don't think anyone in Ireland would refer to Roisin as Raisin 😂

I really don't think anyone, anywhere would refer to Róisín as raisin.

Roisin or prefer Rosanna to Roseanne

Rosa is also lovely

Pemba · 30/10/2022 17:09

Roisin is such a beautiful name. Sorry, can't type the accents on the letters.

Roseanne is pretty (Ms Barr aside) but like pps say, maybe a little dated. Rosanna is a nicer variant, but I still prefer Roisin overall.

therubbiliser · 30/10/2022 17:10

Roisin or another one is Róise which I love too.

therubbiliser · 30/10/2022 17:11

Róise is row sha btw.

Rauha · 30/10/2022 17:17

Róisín

BreatheInFor4 · 30/10/2022 17:20

Roisin is beautiful.

Rosanna is prettier and more classic than Roseanne for me, which sounds a bit flat and dated (like Joanne).

StarryKnight · 30/10/2022 17:29

I love Rose- names with Rosemary being my favourite.

I slightly prefer Roseanne over Róisín but only because of the shortenings.

Ellmau · 30/10/2022 18:51

Both are lovely, as is Rosanna.

gjriiejeje · 30/10/2022 22:26

If Roseanne isn’t well liked, what about Rose? That is the main nn we like. With Róisín it doesn’t seem like a natural nn.

I love Rose and think it's underused as a first name. Lots of middle name use but I don't come across many with it as a first name!

PeekAtYou · 30/10/2022 22:51

Rose with middle name Ann (or Anne) is miles better than Roseanne. Roísín is a pretty name.

HesterLee · 30/10/2022 22:56

I know a Róisín (England not Ireland) - beautiful name. Roseanne did immediately make me think of Roseanne Barr. Rose is nice but maybe a bit well used?

LizzieAnt · 30/10/2022 23:03

Róisín is beautiful.

Pemba · 31/10/2022 02:13

I don't see why you can't use Rose as short for Roisin.

Many names have diminutives with different sounds, eg Kate for Katherine, Maggie for Margaret, Harry for Henry. The initial vowel sound is different from the name it derives from. Then you have Bill for William, Peggy for Margaret, Bella for Isabella and others where the short name doesn't even start with the same letter!

Rose for Roisin is fine honestly! And very nice too.

I think Rose is a very natural nn for Róisín, as it means wee rose.

evilharpy · 31/10/2022 05:52

I know a Róisín who goes by Rosie.

Róisín is a lovely name. Roseanne feels to me of the same generation as Sharon/Tracey/Linda - a bit too dated and not ready for a comeback.

Autumnisclose · 31/10/2022 06:35

Roisin

gjriiejeje · 01/11/2022 19:50

I’m glad people think Rose is an okay nn for Róisín - it was one of my biggest worries as I do like Rose as an nn.
