Inspired by another post about mums should have more say in naming their baby… if it was down to you alone to make that choice what would their names be?
my partner vetoed all the names I wanted for my 4 children. He said I was naming future adults not pets….
I wanted Rocco, Rio, Meadow and Dolly.
I Really had to compromise… we have Theodore, Joseph, Charlotte and Vivienne.
I have always called them Teddy, Joey, Lottie and Vivi.
The boys are now teens and like to be known as Theo and Joe.
Lottie never uses her full name. Vivi is only 3 so time will tell.

I named my cats meadow and dolly 😐😬

I know someone with a Bracken, which is similar.

I also have an Elspeth! It’s quite a rare name I think…

I wanted Angus for DS. Wasn’t allowed.

That combo would have been tremendous. They would have needed their very own thistle whistles! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

Jonah, Casper or Cassius, Silas. Eli, Phoenix
Fern, Iris, Ivy, River.

I really wanted Adelaide but we went with DH's choice instead. He called the baby his name since before it was even conceived, until it became impossible to use anything else. To be fair, it's a name I also love so wasn't hard to agree to. He hates Adelaide.

He's trying to do the same thing for a future girl too, by constantly referring to her with his choice of name. But this time, if I have another, I'm relegating it to middle name position as I strongly dislike the natural diminutive (Madeleine. I like the full name but hate Maddy).

For a boy, I loved Geoffrey for decades. I convinced him, and now he won't consider anything else, but I've gone off it!!! I love Robin but he vetoed. Ah well. Not really likely to have another anyway.

Allanah. And Sebastian

Dh got his favourite name for dd1. I got mine for dd3. Dd2 is a good compromise ending in a rather than e. And now I prefer the a ending

Eden and Alexander.
Eden was a straight no, Alexander is a cousin he never sees.

It worked both ways though - he really wanted Edmund. I could only see Blackadder and the annoying Narnia kid for that!

Yes it definitely works both ways! He wanted Rebecca. But I have had quite a few friends and colleagues that are Rebecca / Becky. All I could see was a 30 year old and I really disliked Becky and Becca.

Same as they are now. DH is so easy going he agreed to all my suggestions.

We still sometimes discuss names, even though we won’t be having any more. I am a bit obsessed with names and love it when a friend is having a baby and wants to chat names!!
I would choose Jemima, nickname Mimi. And for a boy I would choose Finn or Sebastian (Seb) I’ve definitely changed over the years in my taste of names!!

Hamish and Poppy.

BeReet · 25/10/2022 23:59

A couple of my kids names are mentioned above but my husband vetoed absolutely loads of my choices. My shortlist of names I will only get to use for cats now includes

Fergus, Rogan, Vivienne, Marianna, Mairead, Alba, Freddy, Deacon. I add to it all the time and rarely remove a name (unless I meet a particularly repellant example 🤣)

ItisallPooh · 26/10/2022 00:02

Pollyanna
Georgia
Fergus
Ross
These were all vetoed. I call dd Polly as a nickname even though it in no way relates to her actual name! 🤣

I love my children's names and quite happy with them.

There were a couple vetoe'd though that I had loved for years- Honor and Genevieve - still love them and would have quite liked as middle names!

I have a baby named Honor . I never hear of any others with that name .

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/10/2022 21:26

Isambard and Isis

Very glad DH intervened

I feel the same now. I cannot imagine calling Meadow down for dinner. I was definitely just thinking of the cute baby stage and not beyond. Thankful to my OH for steering me away 😬

As was Lydia because ‘chlamydia Lydia’ 🙄

I was a single mum, but my best friend managed to put me off Lydia by saying the same thing. See also Soraya: “sounds like psoriasis” and Sunniva, “sounds like Saliva”. 🙄

Todaynotalways · 26/10/2022 01:06

Thanks ro DH we don't have a daughter called:

Winter, Aspen, Clara or Blossom.

Or sons called:

Buzz, Spike, or Hector.

OzziePopPop · 26/10/2022 01:07

I love both my kids names, but then again I chose them 😂

I wouldn’t change either of them, I named both in utero, I just knew. Fortunately DH didn’t have any objections 😂

Todaynotalways · 26/10/2022 01:08

Or indeed, my piece de resistance girl's name Alouette (not a name, and we're not french).

Wildehorses · 26/10/2022 01:08

Funny how often Sebastian has appeared here, it was also a name I would have chosen for son number two if DH agreed (he did not) but we both loved Oscar for eldest son so am happy enough!

Gronkle · 26/10/2022 01:56

DH wanted Brandon Gascogne Surname, I vetoed the fuck out of that.

I'd have had Seth, Gabriel, Eliza or Gabrielle (if I didn't already have Gabriel)

brookln · 26/10/2022 02:07

Cruz. Still feel a little sad about it 😄 although do love DS's name (popular).

Eden and Alexander.

I work with Eden Alexander. Love reading her name on emails, so beautiful.

Readinstead · 26/10/2022 02:20

For dd I originally wanted Caitlyn but it was vetoed - good thing because 30 years on I don't like it much but still like the name I chose. At the time I wanted Dominic for a boy but friends kept singing the Domestos advert to me (Big bad Dom) which put me off the name, so a boy would have been Nicholas - again not very keen on now. Ex dh liked Asa for a boy which I vetoed then, but really like now.
Currently and hypothetically, as I am mid fifties, a boy would be Alexander, Benedict, Dominic or Adam and a girl would be Erin, Felicity, Matilda or Jennifer.

Mumofgirls2017 · 26/10/2022 06:07

I'm quite happy with the names we agreed on for our girls, but I did like Daisy, Matilda and Clover for DD1/2/3 respectively. Our girls actually have more unusual names!

romdowa · 26/10/2022 07:03

I'd have loved Astrid and artemis. Dp said nope and nope.

VioletShrinking · 26/10/2022 07:42

I wanted Woody and Pippa for 2 of ours. Straight no.

I also liked Felix and Louis but he couldn't get past the cat or superman.
