Two older siblings with traditional names. The middle names will be Taylor Jean.

Hermione Taylor Jean

Or

Emilia Taylor Jean

Both are really nice, I slightly prefer Emilia but both go well with your surname

Sandysandwich · 25/10/2022 11:34

*middle names not surname

Rauha · 25/10/2022 11:34

Emilia

SummaLuvin · 25/10/2022 12:22

I prefer Hermione in a vacuum, but I couldn't use it. The Harry Potter association is just too strong for me, the cultural impact seems to be ongoing and not slowing down that quickly even a decade after the final film. I was a big fan so it might be that my perceptive is skewed.

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 12:31

Emilia is too close to Amelia.
Hermione is too long and too HP.

Dreamingcats · 25/10/2022 12:56

Hermione by a mile. I find Emilia so wet.

FirstFallopians · 25/10/2022 13:05

Hermione by a mile. Love it. Emilia is just a bit bleh and sounds the same as Amelia in a lot of accents.

However, in HP Hermione’s full name is Hermione Jean Granger, so your middle name choice might mean she shares even more of her name with arguably the most famous female fictional character of the last 25 years.

StopFeckingFaffing · 25/10/2022 13:09

Hermione gets my vote

E names for girls (Emily, Ella, Evie, Elsie, etc etc) have been massively overused for the past 20 years of so

Personality I wouldn't let the HP association put you off (unless you really hate the books I guess!)

misteriosa · 25/10/2022 13:25

I'd go for Emilia. Hermione will get endless HP references and jokes. I wouldn't do it.

BumbleShyBee · 25/10/2022 13:34

Emilia is gorgeous and classic and I much prefer it to Hermione. However, I agree with previous poster that there are so many 'E' girl names at the moment!!

toastofthetown · 25/10/2022 13:40

Hermione by a significant margin. Emilia is so overused (along with Amelia, Emily et. al.) that it’s so bland and beige to me. Though I wouldn’t underestimate the Harry Potter connection with Hermione. It’s huge and currently enduring. It might die down over the generations or it might not, but I’d go into choosing the name with my eyes open. Hermione’s middle name in the books is also Jean, but I wouldn’t expect that to be common knowledge.

Lilacsunflowers · 25/10/2022 14:59

Emilia/Amelia/Emily are sooo overused.

Hermione is much more interesting and memorable!

dream28 · 25/10/2022 15:28

I would choose Hermione over Emilia, but I personally love Hermione for somebody else child. I wouldn't personally use it.
That said, I would not choose Emilia, rather I would pick Amelia.

but for you, Hermione definitely.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2022 15:34

I love Hermione and HP but what if she didn't? It is still such a huge cultural icon and so signs of it diminishing.

IStandWithMaya · 25/10/2022 15:35

Emilia

RandomMusings7 · 25/10/2022 15:36

Definitely not Hermione!

WaltzingWaters · 25/10/2022 15:44

Emilia.

Thatskindafun · 25/10/2022 15:49

Hermione (Taylor) Jean
like hermione jean (granger)
Don’t do that to the kid.

the name is too iconic for that character and little known outside of that, add in the same middle name and it’s too much.

ScruffMuffin · 25/10/2022 17:15

Emilia is extremely pretty and works better with the strong and slightly less feminine Taylor Jean.

sopeas · 25/10/2022 19:15

Hermione

Whistlesandbell · 25/10/2022 19:17

Emilia

schoolsoutforever · 25/10/2022 20:16

I would probably avoid either name. I don't like Emilia at all - too bland/popular and I personally don't like the sound of the name. Hermione I love but it's just too associated with HP. How about something else Greek or Roman? Livia? Gaia? Penelope? Julia?

RainbowSlide · 25/10/2022 21:51

Thanks for all your responses! I'm also plagued by the hp reference, and should have mentioned i knew about the hermione Jean thing too so definitely not a great idea. Shame as it's a family name.

We don't have so many E names where I am, more A ones so might keep Emilia there at the top for now. I'm 38 weeks so really should have a plan by now...

I guess I like the shortening to Emi, whereas shortening hermione is a bit trickier.

Others on the short list are:

Clover
Mia
Matilda

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/10/2022 23:12

Hermione

I like Emilia but it’s so overused, and that’s before you take into account all the other Em names

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/10/2022 23:14

I like Matilda too, though very overdone in the Uk.

Clover is dopey (cartoon cows etc), Mia is nothing-y - v overdone in Uk also. Better as a short form for Maria if you must.
