Full name, Spencer Arthur Dean - opinions?

MrsDaft · 23/10/2022 09:59

I was just looking for some opinions on our only boy name option.

We both like Spencer but I’d like to put the feelers out and see what some opinions are on it too. We don’t want to share with friends and family for opinions yet.
I’ve only got 8 weeks until my due date so need to get looking for alternatives/back up if needed.

Thanks!!

Not keen on the initials.

It’s a fine name! But as PP said initials are SAD which might be off putting? Is Dean your surname or one of the middle name options to Ds?

bigknickersbigknockers · 23/10/2022 10:05

Change Arthur, its not a nice name and the initials will not be SAD

MrsDaft · 23/10/2022 11:39

Dean is our surname. I married into it and my initials are SAD too 😂😂 which was not by choice obviously but possibly why I never thought too much about initials haha.

I like it. People might call him 'Sad' but there are worse nicknames.

Kanaloa · 23/10/2022 11:43

Spencer is a lovely name. And to be honest he’s unlikely to be called Spencer Arthur Dean, he’ll just be Spencer Dean. Which is nice.

Kanaloa · 23/10/2022 11:44

Obviously I would change initials if they were like DIK or FUK but I think SAD is ok.

Twilightstarbright · 23/10/2022 11:48

my surname is similar to yours in that it’s a (first) name. Spencer could be a last name, so he might get the odd Dean Spencer mistake but that’s hardly major.

😂 then go for it! you can be SAD together 😂 it’s a lovely strong name and like a PP has said he’ll likely be known my first and surname in which case it’s SD

yeh, that's the worst thing about it. It flows well though.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 23/10/2022 12:29

Having taught a few kids with names like Jackson Harrison / Robert Lee I wouldn’t personally use a surnamey given name with a surname like Dean as they do get muddled but if that doesn’t bother you then Spencer is a nice name.

iloveeverykindofcat · 23/10/2022 12:39

SAD isn't so bad. I know a bloke who is PMS. The day this realization dawned on his highschool classmates was a bad day for him.

RuthW · 23/10/2022 12:51

Working in the nhs, names that can be switched are annoying. I expect he will find it annoying. If you still want it, add another name so initial don't say SAD

PeaceX · 23/10/2022 13:34

I agree, I work for a government body not in UK, but once in a while some genius will enter the name backwards. Not often I know but it has happened. Or when you search for the name you are doing the search back to front. Not a major cause of stress in my life! But still.

andrea4321 · 23/10/2022 13:41

I definitely wouldn't go with SAD initials

Foxtrot101 · 23/10/2022 20:07

I don't love the flow of Spencer Arthur but it's very rare that the middle name gets used so flow between first and middle isn't as important as flow between first and last and Spencer Dean flows well. I kind of agree with the other posters though that it may create confusion occasionally. I live outside of the UK in a country where names are often written surname, first name, but not ALWAYS written that way, so this would be one of the times when you wouldn't necessarily spot that the surname was first and you would happily assume the first name was Dean.

toastofthetown · 23/10/2022 20:36

I don't love Spencer as a first name. I prefer Arthur, though it's so popular. SAD initials would be a dealbreaker for me.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 24/10/2022 00:13

How about Mark instead of Spencer?
Then he can be MAD instead of SAD.

DistrictCommissioner · 24/10/2022 17:17

Yeah at my work we don’t consistently write names one way or the other, and Spencer Dean would definitely get confused as Dean Spencer. But I guess that’s a minor hiccup, just be prepared to correct occasionally.
