Stuck on girls names and would love to know which is your favourite. I love them all!

Mabel; worried this may become popular
Dorothy nn Dottie; will she hate this when she is older?
Bonnie; sounds like a nickname but I love it.
Edith nn Edie; love this.
Pippa; love this

I like Mabel off your list.

FennelAndOnions · 21/10/2022 09:18

I can’t stand Dorothy, it’s just so dated and frumpy. And I hate Dottie as it’s too twee and cutesy.

I like Mabel and Pippa. Love Edie but hate Edith. I quite like Bonnie, I know a couple of little ones.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 21/10/2022 09:57

Love Pippa.

ITookABathWithAinsleyHarriott · 21/10/2022 10:00

Pippa is lovely, but I hate abbreviated names. Every Pippa I know is a Philippa.

Kanaloa · 21/10/2022 10:00

Mabel, Bonnie, and Pippa are nice. I’m not keen on Dorothy and Edith, they just seem too old for me. I like Eden though, so I don’t mind the Edie sound, it’s just that Edith is a bit dated. None of them are awful though. If I had to choose I’d choose Bonnie.

stormelf · 21/10/2022 10:04

Bonnie is my favourite. The only Bonnies I know are adults and the name really suits them so it definitely works for a child and adult

S25 · 21/10/2022 10:06

Mabel; worried this may become popular

Dorothy nn Dottie; will she hate this when she is older?

Bonnie - love this! could always go Bonita for the full name like Bonnie Langford and nn to Bonnie

Edith nn Edie - I actually think Edith is due a revival! edie is cute

Pippa - lovely! though I’d go Philippa to give her more options as she gets older.

S25 · 21/10/2022 10:07

Sorry I had copy and pasted so I didn’t miss any of your list, ignore the above! - here we go…

Mabel - I think this is very cute but not so sure I can envisage a grown women called Mabel which is interesting when I can see a grown up Dottie/Bonnie 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dorothy nn Dottie - this is my favourite!

Bonnie - love this! could always go Bonita for the full name like Bonnie Langford and nn to Bonnie

Edith nn Edie - I actually think Edith is due a revival! edie is cute

Pippa - lovely! though I’d go Philippa to give her more options as she gets older.

overall I think your list is really beautiful, great names xx

wherearetheturrets · 21/10/2022 10:08

Like bonnie and pippa. Edie is also nice but don't like Edith. I feel like edith, Dorothy and Mabel are old lady names, though a lot of names I consider old lady names are coming back into fashion so 🤷‍♀️

Spideryplant · 21/10/2022 10:08

Not keen on Mabel (it's a bit cow like) and Edith is a bit harsh to my ears, but the others are all nice. My favourite is Dorothy.

Spideryplant · 21/10/2022 10:09

You could also consider Margaret/Maggie

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/10/2022 10:22

Mabel - I really like Mabel. I actually think it may have peaked already? Not looking statistically just basing off the fact that I knew loads being born about 6-8 years ago but haven't heard any baby Mabel announcements in a while

Dorothy nn Dottie - I like Dorothy but not so keen on Dottie. I feel Dorothea might have more street cred

Bonnie - it sounds cute on a baby and toddler but I think I would hate to be called Bonnie as an adult

Edith nn Edie - love Edith, like Edie, it has a classy sound about it. I also like Meredith NN Edie too

Pippa - like as a shortening for Phillipa. Also like Pip

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2022 19:00

Mabel; too many May, Maya, Mia, Mae, Maeve type names around. Mabel a bit frumpy.
Dorothy nn Dottie; like it. Dot/Doll other options
Bonnie; not sure. 'Stan'.
Edith nn Edie; love this. ok.
Pippa; love this ok

Edie from Meredith - how???

Penguinsaregreat · 21/10/2022 19:00

Pippa then Mabel.

outtheshowernow · 21/10/2022 19:03

Pippa is nice but I much prefer piper !

Tinytigertail · 21/10/2022 19:03

Mabel and Pippa are lovely. Objectively, I think that Edith (Edie) is a nice name, but I had the misfortune to meet not just one but two terrible Edies so could never contemplate it!

Thisisnotmyname2 · 21/10/2022 21:13

I would go for Mabel, Edie as a name on it's own or Pippa. Not keen on the other options.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/10/2022 23:18

I love them all! Dorothy is my favourite actually

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/10/2022 01:12

I like Bonnie and it’s underused. It’s a bit nicknamey though. the one I know is short for Isabella (Bonny Bella was where it came from) so something like that or Annabel if you want a full name?

Like Pippa short for Philippa but not on its own

Dorothy is ok, but much prefer Dorothea. Nothing wrong with Dottie although I prefer Dorey and Dorrie.

I love Edith but it is done to death. Ethelyn?

Mabel also overused. Merryn, Ishbel ??

MayFlower22 · 22/10/2022 01:19

Love Mabel and Dorothy , Bonnie is nice. Not keen on the others.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2022 01:22

I don't like Bonnie (twee) or Pippa (doesn't travel well) but the rest are all good.

DeeDeeDaisy · 22/10/2022 12:47

Mabel or Pippa. Agree with PP, I like Edie but not Edith and would choose Eden to get the Edie nn.

sageandbasil · 22/10/2022 14:36

I have a 11 month old and we do a lot of baby classes-

There's no Mabel's
There's 1 Dorothy
There's 1 Bonnie
One Edie
No pippas

So I don't think they're super popular depending on region. I'm in SW

Nancy155 · 22/10/2022 20:14

Thanks so much everyone! All the feedback is really useful. Also great to know how popular they are in baby classes etc so thank you 🙂
