Names like Arya?

I love this name (I am half Indian), spelled either Arya or Ariya, but DH tells me that it’s a name in Game of Thrones - a show I won’t watch so don’t know! ( a show DH really likes) And he thinks that’s what people will think of every time they hear it.

Can anyone suggest something similar? A name that has a Sanskrit / Hindi nod, but also works in English? My baby will only be a quarter Indian, so really want something that works well in both cultures so she doesn’t look like she has parents who have just co-opted an Indian name!

I also really like the sound of Arya. So maybe something that has the same sort of sound? Aria is the obvious similar name, but it lacks the Hindi nod.

Lots of lovely suggestions on this thread. My favourites are Indira (nn Indy) and Jaya.

OP I know an Aanya and she pronounces it ahhhnya so not like Anya.

Kamika is nice but too similar to the word kamikaze!

Babygirlnameq · 17/10/2022 11:50

Indira / Indy is lovely!
