I thought I had a name picked for my baby girl but starting to doubt it. Not sure if its due to people mispronouncing it or just last minute doubts. I love the name but also don't want her to always have to correct people when shes older.

Name we like is Elena (Eh-lay-na which after some research is the original spelling/pronunciation).

Open to other name suggestions. Just to see if there is anything else I love.

It’s a beautiful name but it is one of those like Evelyn as an example that can have different ways of being pronounced which may become annoying for you and for DD as she grows

how about spelling it Elaina or Elayna- I know they don’t “look right” but it may help with pronunciations?

I’ve seen Alainah more than a couple of times so I think it’s a recognised way of spelling it.

It’s pretty but I would pronounce that ‘Ella-nuh’.

Oh I love it! It's recognisable but quite unusual these days. I think it's quite elegant. Names I think have a similar vibe: Ursula, Lena, Vivienne, Helen/a, Anya.

Elena is lovely. I'd pronounce it your way, OP.

How about just Lena (pronounced Leh-na)?

Northtosouth · 17/10/2022 21:08

I’d pronounce Elena the way you said it.
Might be because I know one and she pronounces it that way. I don’t actually know the other way it would be pronounced? It’s a lovely name.

I know an Aleyna. I would pronounce Elena as EL-EN-A
