My daughter has 4 Sophia’s in her class alone.

Also Rueben seems to be the most common boys name.

I don't know any Ruebens, however I know two Reubens.

Reuben is the popular spelling that's why.
Rueben is for those who can't and get their vowels mixed up.

Isaac, Harvey, Noah, Ella, Lily, Imogen are all the multiples in my 5year old's class. I'm a secondary teacher and one year I had a class with about 5 Elliots, an Ellis, several Ellies and an Ella! It was very confusing.

There are actually two children with the same first and surname at our school. Thankfully they have different middle names, otherwise it would be tricky to identify them.

@Dragonred @RedToothBrush @Dassams Thank you, you’ve made me feel a bit better. I guess one advantage of a very common name is that it’s not outing to give it! It’s Sophie. I know it’s not top ten but if you also think of all the Sophias…she does have a less commonly used middle name.

Sophie is a beautiful, classic name, and I have always loved the meaning Flowers

Oh thank you @ZoyaTheDestroyer

Yes, the meaning is a good one, hopefully will suit her as she grows up!

Ah Sophie is beautiful and I think is a name that will age well! I only know 2 Sophie’s, both adults! It definitely doesn’t feel overused to me like some of the current top 10.

Thank you @Dragonred x

DD is in secondary school now, most common name in her year (Y9) is Megan, there’s about 8 of them - one per form at least. For boys it’s either Thomas or William.
In DD’s primary there were 3 Diya in her class, and 2 Jake.

My dd’s name appears many times on this thread and I feel so down about it. I wanted to pick an unusual name but somehow didn’t manage to and I have severe name regret.

My DDs name has appeared a few times too and one of the reasons we picked it was because it was fairly unusual.

If it’s any help I had a very unusual name (in Scotland at least, it’s Welsh so has more popularity there) and I hated it growing up. And as another pp said when popular names were popular back in the day it meant you knew 100 Sarah’s but now it’s just a few here and there of whatever name.

Girls = Grace, Lucy and Maddie
Boys = James, Joe and Harry

its a moments work though to check the name isn’t top of the top ten. When I was first pregnant our first choices were Emily and Olivia - two of the dullest names possible. Thankfully I realised this just before giving birth and upped my game.

Exactly. It's so easy to check how popular names are. While you can't avoid a name becoming popular, you can certainly avoid those that are already in the top 10 or top 100.

We also considered Emily in the early 2000s but it had already become too popular by then. Our dc name was actually only used 30 times in their birth year.
