I think of Jeffrey Dahmers dad. Or Lionel Blair

obsessedwithsleep · 08/10/2022 19:04

I really like it.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/10/2022 19:05

Lionel Blair his trousers flair. I don’t really like it, it could be shortened to Leo which is nice

Sandysandwich · 08/10/2022 19:06

Makes me thing of a very old man in a silky dressing gown, like Hugh Hefner.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/10/2022 19:07

It’s cute.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 08/10/2022 19:08

Lionel Richie? Idk if enough time has passed since the 70s for Lionel Blair/Richie to be the immediate thought of everyone over 40. Depends if you care about the connection or not. If not, go for it!

quietnightmare · 08/10/2022 19:08

Messi/Richie

AmandaMirandaPanda · 08/10/2022 19:10

I love it too. It has the vibe of traditional but maybe a bit too popular names like Daniel, Gabriel, Michael, etc. plus the popular appeal of Leo, Leon, etc. without being an overused name on its own.

It does make me think of Lionel Jefferson on the US TV programmes All in the Family and the Jeffersons, but I think that is pretty archaic.

50but17inside · 08/10/2022 19:10

I bloody love it. And Lion as a nickname is fab. Also love the French “Leo-nell” pronunciation.

mummyismymystery · 08/10/2022 19:12

It's fabulous isn't it?

My other son is Vincent - classic but with a cool vibe, I think Lionel is similar in style

I'm mid twenties so I know Lionel Messi, Lionel Richie, Lionel Dahmer 😬 None of which immediately spring to mind when I hear the name Lionel funnily enough

I really love it- powerful name. People of my age think of Lionel Blair but your son’s friends won’t know who that is.

Same here!!

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 08/10/2022 19:20

I thought of the dude in Peanuts. Then Messi

I quite like it!

Do you mean Linus?

Do you mean Linus?

Maybe I do!

I still like the name. Both of them!

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/10/2022 22:02

It’s quite Edwardian sweet - like Ernest or Leonard.

Underhisi · 09/10/2022 11:08

I think Blair. It doesn't have any obvious shortenings. I prefer Leo or Leon if you want a lion name.

Lilacsunflowers · 09/10/2022 12:11

Lionel is a great name. Lion a cute nickname

AllPlayedOut · 09/10/2022 12:12

It's awful.

SardineJam · 09/10/2022 12:13

Great name!

And me.

Volterra · 09/10/2022 12:15

I know someone with it as a middle name. He detests it as people snigger when they hear it and he tries not to use it.

Lilacsunflowers · 09/10/2022 12:35

as people snigger when they hear it

I wonder what sort of person would snigger at Lionel? Confused

Absolutely no idea but he is in his early 50s and there have been a few over the years.apparently. He’s not prone to imagining things and can be quite oblivious to people’s reactions so it must have been fairly obvious.
