Is it weird to call our second child Sophia when my sister is called Sophie? We figured they would probably end up with the same nickname! We are close to my sister although she is not local if that makes any difference!

I share my name with an aunt. We both feel honoured...

GlassDeli · 04/10/2022 22:02

Not weird at all. In that situation I'd take it as a compliment 🙂

HighlandPony · 05/10/2022 00:03

No. It’s pretty common really

cherrytreelanecherries · 05/10/2022 00:08

No I think it’s fine and yes a bit of a compliment really.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2022 00:19

Perfectly fine.

marblemad · 05/10/2022 02:14

It's fine if it were me I would go for the Sofia spelling however.

Thanks for the overwhelmingly conclusive replies! Still trying to convince OH..

No, there are 17 billion Sophias though, if that bothers you

bridgetreilly · 06/10/2022 01:42

It’s fine but please don’t pretend it’s to honour your sister or anything like that.

SalviaOfficinalis · 06/10/2022 15:51

I have the same name as my Aunt, it’s fine.

AriettyHomily · 06/10/2022 16:53

Would never cross my mind to worry about it.

I have a stupidly large family, two of my cousins have the same name as me.

Crunched · 06/10/2022 16:59

It happens in families frequently doesn't it?
In my family alone;
Josephine and Joanne
Rose and Rosemary
Evangeline and Eva
Edward and Edmund.

I personally wouldn’t because I think it’s so similar and there’s so many lovely names to choose from, but if you love the name go for it!

Some names that feel similar to Sophia - Louisa, Helena, Ophelia, Saskia, Clara

MummyJ12 · 17/10/2022 10:44

If you love the name Sophia then go for it! My DD is called Sophia. It’s a beautiful name. Although she does get called Sophie by some. It drives me insane because it’s not her name! Her swimming teacher especially can’t seem to grasp that her name is Sophia and not Sophie!!
