Cordelia Pearl or Cordelia Rose?

if not Pearl or Rose, what middle would you pair Cordelia with?

I think definitely a 1-syllable middle name is the way to go.

Rose or Jane

MissyB1 · 04/10/2022 14:29

You definitely need a one syllable middle name because of the number of syllables in Cordelia.

Cordelia Anne
Cordelia Fleur
Cordelia Faith
Cordelia Hope

My thought was Jane too. But I'm in the no middle name camp but feel it should be given for good reason and not because of how it sounds. Maybe a family name or a name you love but felt didn't fit. The middle name feels like a talking point to me, it's not necessary and isn't used every day, so a point of interest If you like? Using a generic name because it's popular (common) shows a lack of imagination or history

I don’t agree that your middle name choice has to mean something…it can simply mean you like the name!

Cordelia Jane is very pretty! Cordelia Jean is sweet too.

VeryQuaintIrene · 04/10/2022 21:54

Nothing that begins with a vowel. Jane or Rose are great choices IMO.

MuddlerInLaw · 04/10/2022 22:25

Cordelia Anastasia
Cordelia Evangeline
Cordelia Imogen
Cordelia Osyth
Cordelia Unity

AvocadoHeaven · 04/10/2022 22:32

Alice

Ikeameatballs · 04/10/2022 22:36

I like Ruth, Jean, Jane and Kate from the suggestions you’ve had.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/10/2022 23:24

Neither of those - long first name, single syllable second name is too much of a cliche, especially Rose

A family name if you have one you like, or something like

Cordelia Frances
Cordelia Mary
Cordelia Beatrice
Cordelia Lois

feministqueen · 04/10/2022 23:26

Anne
Rose
Louise

Marcipex · 04/10/2022 23:33

Jane
Faye
Fern
Raine

i really don’t like Pearl. Rose is lovely but massively overused.

Dreamingcats · 04/10/2022 23:38

Shirley.

Diverseopinions · 04/10/2022 23:44

Laine or Elaine.

LiveintheNow · 05/10/2022 00:01

Cordelia Raven

VeryQuaintIrene · 05/10/2022 01:21

@MuddlerInLaw haha - you proved my point!

Pumpkinbite · 05/10/2022 01:28

Rae
Lily
emmeline
jane
Pearl
june
Carla
josephine

Ravensclawdropout · 05/10/2022 01:34

I think both Rose and Pearl are lovely and I would just ignore people critiquing such classic names.

Trez1510 · 05/10/2022 03:47

Cordelia Imogen

A one syllable middle name after a long first name always looks as if it was tacked on for no good reason except to 'balance' the longer name.

A first name with the gravitas and presence of Cordelia deserves a good match in a middle name. I think you should go big.

Cordelia Leonore
Cordelia Elowen
Cordelia Alexandra
Cordelia Melisande
Cordelia Alethea
Cordelia Juliet
Cordelia Jessamine
Cordelia Isabella
Cordelia Penelope
Cordelia Caroline
Cordelia Eloise
Cordelia Evaline

I agree.

I think a middle name is a good opportunity to use a name that you like but not as a first name - classic names with popular diminutives, like Margaret/Maggie and Elizabeth/Liz, for example, may be family names, but you might not your DD to be Maggie or Liz

Grin I think, with the very greatest respect, if you have never possessed a middle name you may not appreciate the myriad of ways in which they can affect your life!

It would be nice to use something from your family, OP - so your daughter can feel she’s part of a continuum. Otherwise:

Jane was my first thought too. The J sound seems to run well after Cordelia, so if that’s too plain you could have:

Jean - this would sound so cool
Raine - would work
Antoinette - actually not impossible.

I don’t understand this. My middle name has never affected my life!!

MuddlerInLaw · 05/10/2022 09:19

I have three! Together they tell a whole story of aspiration, heritage and belonging. I tend to deploy them alongside my first name, in varied combinations, depending on intended audience. In some circumstances they can be galvanising and get me what I want. In others they can be a source of … othering. Sharing them can be the quickest route to understanding the character and assumptions of the person I’m interacting with.

I think Cordelia is 'enough' just adding a generic middle name just the same as 70pc of the population is pointless..Mae, Rose, Jane might sound ok because of the flow, but if I had a middle name I would like it to be unusual or special and something I might like to adopt later in life. I always remember my Mum liked the name Genevieve but my Dad vetoed it at the time. My brother was given Robert as that was a family name. Fast forward 20 years , when Jenna Wade became a character in Dallas I appreciated it (the previous reference was the old crock from the film of the same name!)
Fashion changes for sure, I like that my late Mum wanted to give me a fancy name...I think of her when I hear it still
