What do you think about Killian?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MerryLeg · 03/10/2022 11:12

I think it’s a bastardisation of the Irish name Cillian.

workflowers · 03/10/2022 11:12

much prefer Cillian

suprisebitch · 03/10/2022 11:13

Kill ian

YourLipsMyLips · 03/10/2022 11:13

It's Cillian.

DuchessOfSausage · 03/10/2022 11:13

Kill Ian

Krakinou · 03/10/2022 11:13

I can’t get past the fact it starts with “Kill”.

hugefanofcheese · 03/10/2022 11:14

Cillian is much nicer

Iliketeaagain · 03/10/2022 11:15

I like it - like Killian Jones / Captain Hook from once upon a time.. I would think you'd named your baby after that character

Me too

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 03/10/2022 12:42

I like it. Killian is widely used in Ireland too, so I can't get huffy about the K v C thing.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 03/10/2022 12:44

It's popular in France too for some reason.

mistermagpie · 03/10/2022 12:49

I know a baby one and I don't like it. I don't love the name Cillian either to be honest, but spelled with a K it just emphasises the 'Kill' part.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 03/10/2022 12:52

The only Killian I know changed his name at about 12 (to something really plain like James) because he hated it so much and was bullied about it.

Verytirednow · 03/10/2022 12:53

Terrible!

A580Hojas · 03/10/2022 12:59

AWFUL

giantwaterbottle · 03/10/2022 12:59

I like it. If in Ireland I would spell it Cillian but in the uk I might use the K spelling for pronunciation purposes.
As a PP said it is spelled both ways now in Ireland so I also wouldn't get caught up with the spelling being "authentic".

VatofTea · 03/10/2022 13:02

For the Kill Ian people, do you also think Di(e) Anne/a

I think that is very daft and rude (!)

It's a very popular name in Ireland.

Cill means church, it is similar to Christian.

WaitinginVain · 03/10/2022 13:02

I really like it, with either spelling.

DuchessOfSausage · 03/10/2022 13:07

I think your comment is daft and rude.

The Di sounding like Die is one that had crossed my mind, and my surname was Young or something, I wouldn't be naming my child Diana/Diane/Dinah or David

But it's not a combination of first name and surname - it is simply the sound Di(e).

If someone sought opinions on the name Diane, I don't think people would respond saying hate it as it sounds like DIE-Anne.

Snugglemonkey · 03/10/2022 13:13

Cillian I love. The K just looks wrong to me. It is used in Ireland too, but it looks misspelled there too. It is like Ciaran/ Kieran, some people use the K but to me it is spelt wrong. It doesn't make it more unique, just like a parent can't spell.

RomeoMcFlourish · 03/10/2022 13:13

Of course it’s not daft and rude, it’s sensible to break names down and think about potential nicknames/problems with surnames.

VatofTea · 03/10/2022 13:14

It's also pronounced like Gillian (but with the hard C/K sound). Never pronounced the equivalent of Gill-Ian.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 03/10/2022 13:15

Fun Killian/Cillian factoid:

The real name of actor Killian Scott is Killian Murphy, but obviously Cillian ‘cheekbones’ Murphy got there before him so he had to change his surname for Equity reasons.

ofwarren · 03/10/2022 13:18

It looks more attractive with the C rather than the K.
