Boys named Zeus and Titan

My SIL has called her 2nd son Titan. So that is Zeus and Titan, I’m feeling really sorry for the kids. Am I overreacting?

Yes, I believe you'll get over it individually, but I believe most people would snigger if you did it together.

Regardless of what anybody thinks, names matter and influence opinions of the sort of child/adult you’ll be expecting.

"Amelia and Oliver are on their way!" Gives a different impression than "Zeus and Titan," which should be like a pair of boisterous dogs.

Not discussing my children's names because it would make it very clear who we are, but their names have been in existence since practically forever.

I believe you're setting extremely high expectations for your children to be loud, fill the room with their personality, and be incredibly confident, and if they turn out to be shy and not very outgoing, it'll just be something they won't be able to pull off very well.

It's not a given that they'll be footballers or rappers; the poor thing might just want to be an accountant, doctor, or peaceful intellectual.

Completely agree. The only thing I'd add is that when a child has a name that is very much of its time their age is pretty obvious. Hardly any girls my age were called Ava, Evie, Millie, Grace, Ruby or Olivia when I was growing up (I'm in my early 60s). My contemporaries are Karen, Amanda, Clare, Kathryn, Jayne, Jacqueline, Caroline, Joanne etc.

A child given one of the all-time classic names has a fighting chance of not being pigeonholed in that way. Possibly easier for boys: James, William, Thomas. Until recently Mary and Anne were the obvious female alternatives. I'm not sure any girls' names except Elizabeth could be described that way now.

No, his surname is Adonis. A politician, he became a Lord a few years ago, now Lord Adonis.

“I saw a very funny post from him on Twitter a few years ago. Someone had nominated him for the “most inappropriately named person” competition. He retweeted it and said “Fair enough, I do agree. But I do think James Cleverly runs me close…..” 🤣🤣“

Perfect. Accurate too 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/10/2022 10:36

I think more of Lord Adonis for that. He comes from a Greek family, hence being saddled with that awful surname.

Whereas lots of people have a brother and a sister in law with kids called Zeus and Titan so that doesn't make it clear who you are... 😂

Adam and Eve for OP's children?

Honeywaffles1 · 03/10/2022 10:45

The 3rd boy will probably be called Adonis tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

Adam and Eve for OP's children?

this is what I mean by together the names would cause one to have a little snigger…

Both Adam and Eve are perfectly nice but together a bit silly IMO.

Great names for puppies, terrible names for children. Honestly, do some parents just not think?

Is your name "Judge"?

If so, I can't imagine why you'd post something like this about a family member.

Titus and Zeus? So nicknamed Ty and Zee. Hardly the most out there names, but absolutely if you live in a massively uptight part of the UK.

Unclench that arsehole OP. Not your kids. You have no business weighing in on their names.

Ty and Zed, surely.

hattie43 · 03/10/2022 10:51

Horrible choices

DillDanding · 03/10/2022 10:53

Zeus is bad enough, but adding Titan to the mix now takes it into piss-taking territory.

Unless they’re Staffies.

Maireas · 03/10/2022 12:51

I've just looked this up - ONS registry of baby names...

mrsjohnnylawrence · 03/10/2022 12:56

Great if they turn out to be muscular and attractive. Not so great if they turn out to be short and simpy.

Not PC but it's the truth.

StopStartStop · 03/10/2022 13:07

Those are fabulous names and more people should use them.
I wouldn't have dared, myself, but I'd be impressed if I met boys with those names.

SpaghettiSuzetti · 03/10/2022 13:13

Individualism is in.

Well said!

Two great dogs names.

PalatineHill · 04/10/2022 01:19

This thread is so mean and di identifying it its details it should be pulled. Gods’ names are completely acceptable and respectable in lots of cultures so you’re not going to get any outrage from me.

Neo is a character in the film The Matrix and/or a rapper and Blade is also a rapper so maybe the parents are into film or music, but really, who cares?

Baby names, whether popular choices or unpopular choices, take nothing from other people so let’s just give new parents a break FFS,

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 04/10/2022 01:23

C'mon... they're ridiculous, awful names.

You need to get with the times. Titan and Zeus will get on fine with Odin, Loki and Thor. Marvel films see.
