What do you think about the name Lucien?

Makes me think of Lucifer .

ofwarren · 02/10/2022 17:49

I think of Lucien Freud the painter.
I quite like it. There is a possibility he'd get called Lucy though.

DillDanding · 02/10/2022 17:50

I really like it. Classy, not over-used.

Choconut · 02/10/2022 17:50

Just makes me think the devil.

Cheeselog · 02/10/2022 17:53

I think Freud as well. Not really a great namesake as he was a notorious womaniser.

Oldbird69 · 02/10/2022 18:01

First word that sprung to mind was pretentious I'm afraid.

NCembarassed · 02/10/2022 18:05

I love it. I've only ever known one Lucien, personally. He was an incredibly talented man, who worked in music. Very witty, always kind, brought out the best in everyone.

Can you tell I miss him? 🙂

KangarooKenny · 02/10/2022 18:07

Its a very feminine male name IMO. I think it would get shortened to Lucy.

Makes me think of Lucifer .

This! I think it's terrible. I would just associate the child as a little hell raiser trouble maker. Sorry OP

amylou8 · 02/10/2022 18:10

Too close to Lucifer for me.

drpet49 · 02/10/2022 18:11

I like it

toastofthetown · 02/10/2022 18:12

I like it. It's not a name I like enough to use personally, but would like to see it used.

IggyAce · 02/10/2022 18:13

I like it.

toastofthetown · 02/10/2022 18:14

I don't think the Lucifer connection is a concern at all. Lucy and Lucia are popular enough.

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 02/10/2022 18:18

LOVE Lucien! I would shorten it to Luc. It's lovely. Strong but gentle, classy and ancient.

SummaLuvin · 02/10/2022 18:58

I love it. It has a quiet elegance.

Violettaa · 02/10/2022 19:03

I like it, and I know a few under 5s.

I would pronounce it Loo-

Violettaa · 02/10/2022 19:04

… I would pronounce it Loo-see-un, but I’ve also come across Loo-shun.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/10/2022 19:05

I like it.

It’s usually Lucian in the Uk, Lucien is the French spelling.

It fits with names like Caspian, Raphael and Nathaniel which are all popular or becoming so.

Keroppi · 02/10/2022 19:09

I think Loo-shun would be my immediate pronunciation
Also think of the painter, I think Luc or Luke is a potential nn
Not 100% loving it but also would probably grow on me

Riverlee · 02/10/2022 19:10

Love it! I also think of Lucien from The Liver Birds. I’m aware of one young Lucien in the area I live. Never think of Lucifer.

caitlinrose · 02/10/2022 19:14

I have a friend called this, pronounced the French way, and it's difficult to say. The -ien doesn't sound the same as the -ian in Julian, for example. It's a sound that doesn't exist in English.

If you want it said like Julian I would spell it Lucian.

It doesn't make me think of Lucifer. Lucy is much closer to Lucifer when you think about it and it doesn't make me think of that either.

Overall I think Lucian is nice and Lucien is fine in a French environment.

I also really like the feminine form Lucienne which is much easier to say.

Longdarkcloud · 04/10/2022 14:20

Great name and a good variation of the popular Lucca and Lucas.

kuvira · 04/10/2022 14:36

Anyone who's played Oblivion is immediately going to say "Lachance"!

I think it's alright though it's not a name I would personally choose.
