All lovely names. My faves would be Astrid and Daniel.

caitlinrose · 28/09/2022 22:24

Nancy - a bit old fashioned but might make a comeback. Not my favourite but perfectly fine.
Iris - I never liked the sound of this, sorry.
Astrid - cute, on my list, but my husband dislikes it.
Josephine - the full name is fine but I dislike Jo, Josie and Joey.
Clara - cute but a bit boring.
Winifred - not a huge fan of this, sorry.
Helena - this is pretty but quite serious and heavy on a baby.
Phylidia - Phyllida? Not sure what to make of this but Philippa is pretty.
Irini - I think people will assume Irina or Irene.

Frederick - nice
Edward - handsome
Joseph - sorry, I imagine an older guy and it sounds very religious to me. Joe is cool but I prefer Jonah or Jonas.
Daniel - feels dated.
Peter - also dated but might be ready for a comeback. It's kind of cute.

Edward or Frederick.

Astrid or Helena or Clara.

Overall a nice list!

Kite22 · 28/09/2022 22:25

I really like Josephine.
Not that keen on any of the others.
Really dislike Phylidia - sounds like a disease.

I quite like all your boys' names.
Love Peter and Daniel
Like them all but there have been a LOT of Freddies over the last 5 years so I'd make that last choice from your list.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/09/2022 22:52

Irene - if you spell it like this I love it and it’s due a revival. I think there are enough Phoebe, Zoe type names about for people to grasp the proper pronunciation is eye-ree-nee once you tell them

Astrid - love it, quite of the moment but not overused

Nancy - love it

Helena - really like it, the 2 pronunciations might be a bit irritating though

Clara - sweet if mildly twee. Quite popular

Josephine - don’t like it personally, but nothing wrong with it, quite popular right now

Iris is lovely but way overused, Winifred is both twee and staid, Phyllida - clunky.

Daniel - great and quite unusual right now

Joseph - very popular in the 90s / 00s but less so now, solid

Peter - I don’t much like it especially the inevitable Pete, but it’s due a revival

Edward - nice but very overused, nice variety of nns though

Frederick - done to death

chages · 29/09/2022 00:24

Nancy - I actually really like this
Iris - love
Astrid - love
Josephine - not keen on the name but it has good nickname options! (Josie/Joey are cute)
Clara - boring
Winifred - again, not keen on the name but Winnie/Freddie are such cute nicknames
Helena - not keen
Phylidia - absolutely not
Irini - don't like

Frederick - it's alright
Edward - it's alright
Joseph - it's alright
Daniel - boring and overdone
Peter - boring, overdone and not due a revival yet in my opinion

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 29/09/2022 00:27

Edward & Nancy are my favourites from your list .

KirstenBlest · 29/09/2022 09:29

Nancy - ok but don't like Nance/Nan
Iris - ok but I find it a bit nothingy
Astrid - ok but I prefer Ingrid
Josephine - ok but not keen on Josie
Clara - don't like the 'Cl' bit
Winifred - ok
Helena - like but prefer Helen. Helen-a, Hel-eena or Hel-ayna?
Phylidia - Phyllida?
Irini - is it said as Irreeny?

Frederick, Edward, Joseph, Daniel, Peter
All ok but will be Fred, Ed/Ted, Joe, Dan or Pete. Peter is my favourite

WaltzingWaters · 29/09/2022 09:33

Nancy, Josephine, or Clara I like.
very much dislike Winifred and Phylidia.

The boys names are all nice.

Teaandcrumpets95 · 29/09/2022 09:36

Clara and Joseph are my favourites

Hadtocomment · 29/09/2022 12:17

I like this list as it seems quite characterful. I love the name Josephine. I like Jo, Josie etc too.

Nancy I'm not sure about because I always think of Nancy Reagan for some reason. But it seems to be popular on here so maybe there'll be lots more Nancys to associate it with soon.

Phylidia is pretty awful. Is this a misspelling of Phylida?

Love Iris and Astrid. I like that they are short but interesting and not got a or ie on the end for a change.

Helena is quite grown-up and elegant.

I actually really like Winifred. Would this be a difficult name to have or is there enough granny-chic going on for this name to be cool on a youngster? I don't know. Winnie? Freddie or Freda? Nice shortenings. I feel like names like Constance (Connie), Dorothy/Dorothea (Dottie) and those kinds of old-fashioned but coming back names would fit with this list.

Hadtocomment · 29/09/2022 12:20

I realise I only even thought about the girls' names. The boys name list is a bit more traditional maybe. I quite like them but if going for very traditional boys names like Peter, I'd add in Thomas, Matthew, Samuel.

Cheeselog · 29/09/2022 12:23

Nancy, Iris, Astrid, Josephine, Clara, Winifred, Helena, Phylidia, Irini - I like Iris, Astrid, Josephine and Clara. Phylidia sounds like a disease.

Frederick, Edward, Joseph, Daniel, Peter - I like all these but Frederick or Edward are my favourites.

kuvira · 29/09/2022 12:51

I like Daniel and Joseph the most from your boys' list, and Iris, Clara, Josephine and Helena from your girls' list.

For me Phylidia and Irini stand out from the other names on your list. Irini, because it's a distinctively Greek name among a list of otherwise traditional English/British-type names. Phylidia, because I've never heard of it before and it appears made up (is it?).

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/09/2022 13:33

Clara, Helena or Iris
Frederick, Edward or Joseph

my picks!

ChagSameachDoreen · 29/09/2022 14:08

Phylidia sounds like an STD.

Sago1 · 29/09/2022 14:13

I have an AC called Edward, he likes his name, he is Ed, Eddie or Ted to different family or friends but always Edward to us.

Arewethebadguys · 29/09/2022 14:22

Not Astrid. Ever seen American office? Clue: assturd

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 29/09/2022 14:34

The boys list is very blah tbh. Just not Frederick - there are at least 2 Freddies in every baby class I'm in!

All the girls names are quite nice bar Phylidia (WTF) and Irini.

eleanorsmellstrop · 29/09/2022 16:27

Nancy - love
Iris - love
Astrid - like
Josephine - love and love every nickname option too
Clara - love
Winifred - love and LOVE Winnie
Helena - love and love Nell as a nn
Phylidia - you lost me here, sounds like a disease (I’m so sorry)
Irini - I have never heard this and don’t know how to pronounce it so can’t really comment
For a boy:

Frederick - nice
Edward - love
Joseph - love
Daniel - nice
Peter - love

What an amazing list!

Removing the last two names from your girls list - the one I don’t like and the one I haven’t heard of - and removing Astrid, which I like but don’t love quite as much as the others - Ihonestly couldn’t choose which one I love best. They’re all gorgeous. Such a classy and interesting list.

Of your boys I would choose Edward, Joseph or Peter. So strong and classic and dignified but sweet at the same time, reminds me of adventurers from a novel.

IggyAce · 29/09/2022 16:30

Helena or Astrid
Not keen on any of your boys names but if I had to choose one I’d pick Daniel.

Gamergirl84 · 29/09/2022 16:48

Clara and Frederick!

IStandWithMaya · 29/09/2022 17:24

Clara or Helena

Edward, Joseph or Daniel

pilates · 29/09/2022 17:28

Josephine, Clara and Helena

Edward, Joseph and Daniel

are my favourites

ladycarlotta · 29/09/2022 18:09

Do you mean Phyllida? If so I kind of like it but am not keen on Phylidia at all.
You girls names are lovely, to me, but your boys names quite dull - of them I would choose Daniel or Joseph; Frederick is nice but there are so many Freddies about these days.

S25 · 30/09/2022 13:31

Clara is a really pretty name. As are Iris, Helena and Astrid.

Frederick is my favourite from your boys list.
