Hi Opinions on the name Zyan x

Where's it from?
People will probably mistake it with Zayn.

It's an Arabic name. We had a boy with this name at school for a few months a couple of years ago. Quite difficult as a non-Arabic speaker to get the hang of pronouncing it correctly, if I remember rightly.

Unless there’s a cultural reason just call him Zion.

Otherwise everyone will be constantly spelling it wrong and getting confused about whether it’s Zayn or Zion, and he’ll spend his life explaining it. He will not thank you for his younique name.

If it's pronounced the same as Zion from the Bible, I would just spell it Zion. Otherwise it's going to be confused with Zayn a lot.

I think Zion is a really special name, because of it's meaning, but I would assume a Zion's parents were religious (Christian or Jewish) and would be quite surprised if they weren't. (Not like horrified or anything, just unexpected!) I like Zion for a boy. Ancient and meaningful but with an interesting, rare, modern feel. I don't think it's the type of name that will go down well on Mumsnet though.

It's the name of Lauren Hill's son, she wrote a song about him. I quite like the sound of it, he'd have to be pretty cool to carry it off though 😎
