Is Raya not the name of a dating site?.

Chersfrozenface · 26/09/2022 11:15

A rhea is a large flightless bird from South America - looks like an emu / ostrich.

piegone · 26/09/2022 11:16

Raya and Rhea are different names, with different sounds.

strawberrykat · 26/09/2022 11:21

I would pronounce Raya as ray-a whereas Rhea and Ria as Ree-a. I used to go to school with a Ria and there is a little Rhea in my ds's class, I like it.

MoreTeaLessCoffee · 26/09/2022 11:23

I know a little Raya and I really like it but it is pronounced Ray-a, is that what you want?

Christmasbird · 26/09/2022 11:23

Rhea is a large bird, Raya is a dlwell known dating app.
Ria is fine

Ria - I say ree-a and it feels more like a nickname.

Rhea - I say ree-a for this too.

Raya - this is ry-a to me just like Maya is my-a.

I would pick Raya.

Chersfrozenface · 26/09/2022 11:27

Also, a ria is a geographical term, a drowned river valley that remains open to the sea.

But if you're into nature names, that would be fine.

dementedpixie · 26/09/2022 11:29

I know a Rhia and that's pronounced Ree-a
I would pronounce Raya as it looks - Ray-a

candyflosstheboss · 26/09/2022 11:44

My daughter had a 'Ria' in her class, to this day, now 22 she has always been known as Di - her nickname at school was Diahorrea..... just letting you know, Raya is prettier to me X

JustAJokeLikeOnTopGear · 26/09/2022 11:52

I'm a Rhea, I get lots of compliments on my name. And it's from Greek mythology spelt this way and is a moon of Jupiter so pretty cool.

And I can't get upset by the bird connotation 🤷🏼‍♀️.

DappledThings · 26/09/2022 22:54

I know one Raya and would say it like she does; Rye-a.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/09/2022 22:58

I know a Reya. Pronounced Ray-a. Just to make it more complicated for you. Grin

NoYouSirName · 26/09/2022 23:20

Rhea is a bird and reminds me too much of diarrhoea.

They are

Ria and Rhea remind me of diarrhoea, so I’d go for Raya, although it’s a bit nothingy. Are there any other options?

mondaytosunday · 26/09/2022 23:25

I know a Riya and a Rhea. Both are from India, where it means 'singer'. Ria I think is more a nickname for Maria.

rumbypumby · 26/09/2022 23:34

They are three different names

Raya - r-eye-a
Rhea -ray-a
Ria - ree-a

ladydimitrescu · 26/09/2022 23:35

I would pronounce Raya, as Rye-uh rather than Ray-uh.

S25 · 01/10/2022 19:52

Ria/ Rhea - as someone said above about it sounding like the ending of diarrhoea

Raya - I would pronounce ray-a which is a different name entirely so much more suited and less likely to have people making the above connotations.

Though if you like the Ria/Rhea what about something like:

Aria
Maria
Gloria
Victoria
Rian/Rhian
Rhiannon
Rihanna

and you could always nn her Ria.

HorribleHerstory · 01/10/2022 20:10

It’s not just the diarrhoea thing, it’s the fact that in my accent Rear sounds the same as Rhea or Ria

Raya I would say Ray-uh

Rhea -ray-a
Ria - ree-a

This is how I would pronounce them.

Skelligsfeathers · 01/10/2022 20:20

I would go for Ria and have Alannah as a middle name
