DH also loves Phoebe but is it too close to Beatrice (who we call Bea)?

Love Pheobe 😍

Eliza and Allegra are nice. Eliza has a distinctive sound and good with the pattern of stressed syllables, so the sound sort of rises and falls. Lyza, as a shortened form, is pretty.
Allegra has a musical significance and can't be shortened to something which sounds altogether less distinctive.

Clementine the name for my dream never to have baby as I'm now to old!

Hopefully I can have a Granddaughter with it one day
Beautiful name

ZuliKyanLarsFoz · 26/09/2022 04:50

Love Eliza! Not the biggest fan of the others...especially Zinnia

custardbear · 26/09/2022 04:52

Phoebe or Paloma for me. I like Eliza but always reminds me of a type of experiment I used to do from time to time (when I was a lab scientist)

Marcipex · 26/09/2022 05:17

I like Clementine and Polly; I am not sure about Paloma though.
Eliza is okay but Elizabeth is nicer.
Not keen on Olive or Arrietta. Arrietty?
I like Zinnia in an oddball sort of way.

I used to like Phoebe until I met one called Beefy.

GGGD · 26/09/2022 05:23

Allegra or Clementine.

emmathedilemma · 26/09/2022 07:38

Beatrice and Eliza are lovely together.
clementine is ok, but I don’t think the others have the same sort of vibe as Beatrice.

GiantTortoise · 26/09/2022 07:42

I really like Olive, Clementine and Etta. Love Polly but not Paloma - I'd just go for Polly.

Not keen on the others.

Purplemoons2827 · 26/09/2022 07:42

Eliza is my favourite with Beatrice
I also love Phoebe but know one called Bee, so I wouldn’t have that with Beatrice

Dreamingcats · 26/09/2022 07:48

I really like Zinnia.

I loathe Olive.

Beatrice and Lavinia would make me wonder if you were huge Shakespeare fans. Not that that's a bad thing.

I quite like the others.

FayCarew · 26/09/2022 08:34

Freida - will be misspelt as Freda, Frida, Frieda, Freeda
Allegra - will be Legs
Eliza - ok
Paloma (Polly) - Polly is nice, not keen on Paloma
Olive - no, it's a fruit
Clementine - no, it's a satsuma
Zinnia - ok
Arietta (Etta) - 'Arry ate a ...
Lavinia - Lav

Polly is my favourite

Diverseopinions · 26/09/2022 08:36

I think 'Clementine' is always going to be Clemmie, or Clems with very close friends. Does Clemmie sound like clammy? Not really, I guess. Very pretty. However, live with Clemmie in your head for a week, I'd say, as I can't see her being called Clementine in many situations.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/09/2022 08:49

Freida - it’s ok
Allegra - love it - such an underused name - and goes beautifully with Beatrice

Eliza - it’s nice, though prefer Elizabeth as a full name. It’s somewhat overused.

Paloma (Polly) - lovely, close second to Allegra
Olive - only if you are giving birth to a salad, also will blur with the 6 million Olivias in her school
Clementine - nice if slightly twee

Zinnia - no, sounds like a kitchen appliance

Arietta (Etta) - no, sounds a bit Disney and made up, and Etta is a bit ugly
Lavinia - it’s ok, if a bit wet, I would worry slightly about Lav jokes

phoebe - nice enough, getting v popular

You might also like Cassia? But personally I would look no further than Allegra

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/09/2022 08:52

Phoebe - oh I see - no you definitely don’t want Phoebe and Bea - especially as Phoebe might end up being nn Bee at school

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 26/09/2022 09:56

If your Beatrice is Bea day to day then I think Phoebe is too close. Bea and Phoebe - too much!

Freida - I absolutely love this one!
Allegra - I'm not a fan, not sure why.
Eliza - Pretty and goes well with Beatrice
Paloma (Polly) - Not sure
Olive and Clementine - I have a strong dislike of food names for people!
Zinnia - Not heard it before, sounds like it's a nickname, short for something.
Arietta (Etta) - Makes me think of The Borrowers.
Lavinia - Really love this one too!

Sandysandwich · 26/09/2022 10:03

I like Eliza a lot, it has a similar vibe to Beatrice which is nice.

puddingandsun · 26/09/2022 10:08

Beatrice and Allegra ❤️

Appleandbananas2 · 26/09/2022 12:53

Thanks everyone, loved reading all your responses! I think you are right about Bea and Phoebe being too close, I can imagine confusion in calling their names!

I am also loving Allegra which has a similar meaning to Bea (joyful / bringer of joy) and Eliza which also means joyous one. what do you think might be the nickname for Allegra? I would rather avoid ‘leggie’

OP posts:
ellenpartridge · 26/09/2022 13:25

I would go for Eliza

eleanorsmellstrop · 26/09/2022 13:38
