What do you think of the name Linda ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Carouselfish · 30/09/2022 10:53

Yes, not quite time for it to come back. I do like it though, it's sunny and friendly. What about Lucinda?

peachescariad · 30/09/2022 10:56

Fine if you're 50+

butterfliedtwo · 30/09/2022 10:57

Linda is very 70s. Lydia is worse for me though, I'll forever think of Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid's Tale.

newrubylane · 30/09/2022 10:59

I actually think it has a pretty sound, but you'd be very ahead of the curve. Like when my mum desperately wanted to call me Elsie in 1985 - she didn't. Or when my dad's friend called his son George in the mid 90s and we all went 'George??? 🤨'

George was a top 25 name in the mid-90s! Maybe you didn’t like the name, but it was a very popular choice.

jonesy1999 · 30/09/2022 11:15

I like it.

Have always preferred it to Lynne / Lindsey et al.

I know a very beautiful, glamorous Linda in her early 30s, and another beautiful lady mid 40s who spells hers Lynda.

I agree it is very much the preserve of women in their 60s / 70s now, but compared to other ones of that era (Sandra, Irene etc) I think it's much nicer.

jonesy1999 · 30/09/2022 11:18

Further to my previous post, the more I look at it / say it, the more I like it.

When you strip away the 1950s connotation, it is a very nice name. Strong, not overly flowery, I like the L sound and it like the "da" ending.

VatofTea · 30/09/2022 11:20

I love it!!

In 20 years time all the babies will be Linda's and Susan's after their ganny/granaunts, and the 20 year old Linda will be very on trend. It's a pretty name.

VatofTea · 30/09/2022 11:21

Names have a 90 year(ish) cycle. Lynda is due for a comeback.

kuvira · 30/09/2022 12:37

For the people saying it's not a 1960s/70s name, I've met a number of 60s/70s-born Lindas. Not all trends happened at the same time in all geographical areas. I suspect it hit some areas earlier than others.

Montgomerymmoose · 30/09/2022 16:14

It's interesting to read everybody's opinion .
I think a lot of names sound 'wrong' for a baby which I suppose is why we quite often babyfy them ?
I'm sure baby Linda would be Lindy as a baby .

LINDA ROBSON
LINDA LUSARDI

Lydia

No, I think that's such an ugly name, but it's quite popular.

Linda Robson would probably biff you for that

2orangey · 30/09/2022 16:52

I like it. I have a mid 60s relative called Linda and she is great. She has a lot of friends around the same age with the same first name, so it was clearly trendy at one point. It'll probably come back in again in a decade or 2.

Charliehaus · 30/09/2022 18:03

Terrible

Cameleongirl · 30/09/2022 18:08

Stokey · 25/09/2022 21:59

More like 60-70 I'd say, I'm in my late 40s and all the Linda's I knew were more my mum's age. Similar vibe to Barbara or Susan (Sue).

I agree, @Stokey I’m a 1970’s baby and I don’t know any Linda’s my age-but I know a few grandmas called Linda!

Thst probably means it’s due a comeback. It’s quite pretty.

Jan877 · 30/09/2022 18:09

This thread reminded me of Looking for Linda by Hue and Cry!

I loved this song,... I don't know if it's due a comeback but I've always thought it was a nice name.

WhoppingBigBackside · 30/09/2022 18:20

Lynda Bellingham not Linda. Also Lynda Baron and Lynda Snell

BeanieTeen · 30/09/2022 18:24

It just makes me think of Peaky Blinders. ‘Lindaahh’…

J0y · 30/09/2022 18:33

I like it, but it's not ready to come back yet

Lindy is cooler

LookingGlassMilk · 30/09/2022 18:37

It's my MIL's name. I associate it with women in their 60s. I think it is actually a pretty name once you just think of the sounds and remove all the associations from it. It will make a comeback in about 20-30 years.

I love the name Belinda. I wouldn't use it though because it would be shortened to Belle or Bella, which I'm not as keen on.

IrishMamaMia · 30/09/2022 18:46

It's not to my personal tastes but I've known several lovely Linda's. I do think it's refreshing as I'm sick of some of many of the two syllable names that are en vogue now. I think it would work well for an international family due to it being so well known and easily pronounced in many places in Europe.

pilates · 30/09/2022 19:23

Sorry it’s awful.

Old fashioned in a bad way.

Like Sharon or Tracey.

SunnieShine · 30/09/2022 19:52

I love it.
