I love it. I went to school with loads of them. Lindy is cute for a child and Lin is cool for when they're older. It will sound fresh compared to the rest of their friends. I like Lina as well.

Ivyr0se · 25/09/2022 22:20

I love it. Such a beautiful name.

WonderingWanda · 25/09/2022 22:20

I've known a few Linda's they are all over 60. I think it's a very dull name, sorry to any Linda's out there.

MrJi · 25/09/2022 22:21

I know three. One is in her eighties, she is British but half Swedish. Another is in her forties, she is Swedish. The third is also in her forties and from Eastern Europe. I think of it as a Swedish name as I have mainly heard it in Sweden. I really like it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/09/2022 22:21

I think it is lovely!

Bjørn and Agnetha's daughter is Linda.

Jayneisagirlsname · 25/09/2022 22:34

It's my Mum's name and she's utterly lovely! I always just think of it as me Mum's name but when I actually think about it, it has a nice sound to it.
I do think it needs a little longer before it's ready to be used for babies again.

kuvira · 25/09/2022 22:34

It's definitely dated. It also seems plain to me and lacks spice. There are "dated" names that still have plenty of character and history (let's say, Veronica), but I don't think Linda falls into that category. Lydia and Lina are nice alternatives.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/09/2022 22:36

I don't like many names from that era (Susan, Margaret, etc.) However, I do really like Linda.

I think it 'fits' the current fashion for names, in that it ends in 'a' and features the letter 'l' which is quite popular right now - Isla, Ellie, Lara, Isabella, Lila etc.

I actually think people would get used to a young Linda very quickly.

QueenoftheAngles · 25/09/2022 22:37

I think it’s a 50’s name. I was born in the 1970’s and my Mum, my MIL and loads of my friends Mum’s are Linda’s.

Houselamp · 25/09/2022 22:44

It just makes me think of that episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, where there is a baby called Linda and everyone is horrified because its a awful name for a baby.
"He named his baby LINDA! Thats not a baby name, thats a name for an adult woman who works in human resources and says things like uuhh Mondays"
He even called a group of adult Lindas together and they all thought it was weird on a baby.

Mrsdeeds · 25/09/2022 22:50

It's my name and I don't like it. It sounds boring, old and doesn't suit me. I'm in my early 40s. I used to fantasise about changing it to something more interesting.

AllLopsided · 25/09/2022 23:11

I thinks old-fashioned, sorry. My mum is a Linda and she's nearly 80! And a relative on DH's side of similar age. I don't even know any my age, 50s.

WorthThe · 25/09/2022 23:15

Lovely name! Nice to go for something a little different.

hopsalong · 25/09/2022 23:15

Brilliant name. Lots in my parents' generation (early 70s) and over. Have only ever met one in mine and even in those anti-Linda days the name seemed unusual and fresh. Definitely ripe for revival and you can be a trendsetter by getting in there early!

I think perhaps it's more common in some Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries. To me that also makes it attractive.

whythou111 · 25/09/2022 23:16

@Montgomerymmoose makes me think of this scene from The Unbreakable Kimmy Smchidt

LeavesOnTrees · 25/09/2022 23:29

Linda from accounting from Orange is the New Black.

AliBaliBears · 25/09/2022 23:39

I'm in my early 40s - I only know one Linda my age but loads of Lynseys (various spellings) and a few Lynn/Lynnes.

I really like the simplicity of Lynne.

ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 26/09/2022 09:30

No, it’s awful. So dated. Exactly as someone else said, I imagine a Linda to be 50s working in HR. I can’t imagine a teenager being grateful for that name.

Ein · 26/09/2022 10:28

I think it’s lovely.

I was born in the seventies and Linda was a fortysomething mum name in the 90s so I don’t think its too early for a comeback.

Eddieisadick · 26/09/2022 10:38

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee I’m 45 and genuinely don’t think I’ve ever met a Linda my age in my life. It’s a 65+ name

MrJi · 26/09/2022 10:59

The Lindas I know are all v beautiful and also very nice, which helps me like the name !

PinkHeadphones · 26/09/2022 11:02

All my mum's friends who are not called Sue or Jan are called Linda. I just can't see past that!

Lindy2 · 26/09/2022 11:08

There's lots of Lynn names that should be due for a revival at some point.

Linda
Lindsay
Lynn/Lyn/Lynne
Lindy 🙂

I think they've remained fairly popular in America throughout but a bit up and down in the UK.

ILoveShula · 26/09/2022 14:55

Definitely not a 1970s or later name. More 1940s and 1950s.
