Selenie?

I love Selene, thank you to the poster who suggested this in my previous thread! I know Selenie is the “wrong” spelling but I really want the Se-lee-nee pronunciation, not Se-leen. Should I change the spelling to Selenie to make it clearer or does it look silly?

Looks silly! Selene is better, though I feel it’s dated

Doidontimmm · 23/09/2022 06:51

Looks crazy. I’d pronounce it Sell any.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/09/2022 07:26

Isn't it Celine? Like Dion?
Celinie or Celené would probably be pronounced how you want, Selenie looks clumsy.

RedToothBrush · 23/09/2022 07:33

Silly.

Selena
Selene
Cecily
Cecilia

Not Selenie.

BookwormButNoTime · 23/09/2022 07:35

I would pronounce that spelling to rhyme with celery. Sorry.

Enko · 23/09/2022 07:36

I am.surprising myself by saying I don't actually mind that spelling if you want it said that way.

kuvira · 23/09/2022 08:58

If you're okay with correcting the pronunciation sometimes, I think it's fine.

I think Selini is more likely to be pronounced the way you want (though it does look like an Italian surname).

KangarooKenny · 23/09/2022 09:00

Makes me think of senile.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 23/09/2022 09:38

Selenie will be pronounced SELL-en-ee. Spell it Selene and correct people when they get it wrong. If they can manage Phoebe they can learn Selene.

Lilacsunflowers · 23/09/2022 13:54

I'd pronounce Selenie as Sell en EE.

I actually like it.

Lilacsunflowers · 23/09/2022 13:54

Selene is definitely Seleen!

Whataretheodds · 23/09/2022 13:56

I agree that if you are in UK, for the pronunciation you want then Celinie or Selini are more likely to produce the desired results.

What about Sidonie, Ce

Whataretheodds · 23/09/2022 13:57

Sidonie or Cecily ?

The2Omicronnies · 23/09/2022 13:59

I’d pronounce that as if it rhymes with Melanie

minipie · 23/09/2022 14:02

Hmm I too would pronounce Selenie as SELL - eh - nee. Not Sell - EE - nee which is what you want.

As you’re going to get pronunciation issues whatever you do, I would stick with the original Selene spelling which is more elegant than Selenie. And just accept you and your DD may need to correct people’s pronunciation sometimes.

It’s a lovely name.

I think this - lots of Phoebes, Chloes and Zoes around, so Selene not too hard to get to grips with
