Love the name Fern, what do you think? My first daughter is called Phoebe. Would they sound odd together? Both F sounds, but the F and Ph spellings feel oddly mismatched.

It's ok, and is the nicest spelling. Quite normal to like names with similar sounds.
It makes me think of Fern Britton, who I like,

rbe78 · 21/09/2022 09:42

Fern is a lovely name, though the immediate assoication is with Fern Britton, so I guess it depends whether you feel that's a good or bad thing.

Phoebe and Fern as a combo reminds me of Phineas and Ferb... www.imdb.com/title/tt0852863/

bigbadbarry · 21/09/2022 09:47

I wanted Fern for my daughter because Charlotte's Web is such a lovely book. Great choice. (I also thought of Phineas and Ferb!)

Viviennemary · 21/09/2022 09:52

Its OK. And if you like it then fine.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 21/09/2022 10:12

It's lovely! I think Phoebe and Fern sounds cute. I know a Phoebe and Freya sister pair and always think how lovely the names sound together. But I do really love the name Fern!

Lindy2 · 21/09/2022 10:17

I like it. Phoebe and Fern/Ferne go well together.

Lycanthropology · 21/09/2022 10:21

Lovely name, and no, they won't sound odd together.

Queenieloveforever · 21/09/2022 17:57

I adore fern! So simple and cool sounding. I imagine a very cool teenager when I hear this name

Umbellifer · 21/09/2022 18:11

DS would have been Fern if he’d been DD…cute for a baby, cool for a teenager and lovely for a grown woman. Goes beautifully with Phoebe, go for it!

MrJi · 21/09/2022 18:12

I love Fern. I knew one, many years ago, I think she would be fifty something now. Have never met another. I like the meaning but also the sound of the name.

caitlinrose · 21/09/2022 18:16

I think it's pretty and fairy-like. It goes nicely with Phoebe.

Fay would be pretty too.

OldEnoughToHaveReadBunty · 21/09/2022 18:16

One of my cats is called Fern 😁. Ironically, MN has told me in the past that DD has a dog's name.

It's lovely & not one you often hear.

GreenEyedDevil · 21/09/2022 18:28

I love it 😁

Spanielsarepainless · 21/09/2022 18:43

I like it. Also Dawn.

LegoFiends · 21/09/2022 18:48

Phineas and Ferb.
How about Wren?

TempsPerdu · 21/09/2022 18:55

I like it - simple and fresh sounding. Goes fine with Phoebe.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/09/2022 22:06

Fern is OK, I think Phoebe and Fern is too twinny though.

C123456 · 21/09/2022 22:09

I work with a fern-she’s a lovely girl (she goes by Ferne rather than fern)
her sisters are Phoebe,Sophie and Louisa
its a name that ‘grows’ with the child-it will be lovely as a baby right through to an adult

lannistunut · 21/09/2022 22:11

I think it's a great name, good for a child and good for an adult. Fine with Phoebe.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2022 00:09

Fern is such a simple, pretty name. Spelled that way, no Ferne or Fearne (shudder) thank you very much.

I'm not quite sure if it works with Phoebe though, but that's just me.

So just found out my husbands friend(female) has been seeing a married man for over 5 years. Its both an emotional and sexual affair. I know the mans and his wife's name they are on fb and have two kids and have been married 14 years. I feel so bad for the wife but know it's none of my business. What would you do I wish I hadn't been told

I'd disapprove but as you don't actually know the man she's having an affair with or the man's wife, I'd leave well alone and do absolutely nothing.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 22/09/2022 14:13

Oh and Fern is a nice name!

schoolsoutforever · 22/09/2022 20:21

I love the name Fern. I like the plants. A nice nature name but not too overly feminine (like Daisy/Lily etc). Goes with Phoebe in my opinion.
