Eli.

Mabelstearooms · 17/09/2022 16:54

I prefer Eli out of the two.

Xander is spelt with an X.

BronnauMawrion · 17/09/2022 16:55

Zander doesn't feel like a "real" name. I could understand Xander (as a nn for Alexander). But both remind me of dander.

cheercaptain · 17/09/2022 16:55

Definitely Eli

Blughbablugh · 17/09/2022 16:56

Isn't Zander usually spelt Xander as in a shortened name for Alexander? A Zander is a fish. I personally love the nam but it's usual spelling is Xander.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 16:57

Alexander nn Zander, just because while they are both popular Alexander has a lot of nn options.

I quite like Zander but I wouldn’t use it as a full name, it’s quite directional.

Eli is nice but oh so many Elis and Ellies. Again better as a nn because of this.

LunaCrystal · 17/09/2022 16:58

Xander with a X- was on my list of DD had been a boy, love it!

DeathMetalMum · 17/09/2022 16:59

Eli. It was top of our list for dc2 who ended up dd. Simple but not too popular.

Westfacing · 17/09/2022 17:00

I'd say proper name Elias, nickname Eli

mathanxiety · 17/09/2022 17:02

Eli

Such a cool name. Would last a lifetime and be perfectly appropriate for a rock band drummer or a QC and everything in between.

Zander/Xander is cute for a little boy but not for a man in his late 50s.

1user · 17/09/2022 17:03

Thanks all for quick responses.

Yes well aware it's officially spelt with an X but don't like it as much with a Zander (and also aware of the fish!)

I prefer Eli, and defo don't want Ellis or anything else.. just Eli.
But DH not agreeing and we have ran out of options and is just draining me! Confused

Eli is a standalone biblical name. While it can be used as a diminutive for Elijah/Elias, it's also its own name.

I know.

I was just saying that I would have official name, as it were, as Elias and use Eli and a nickname.

Snugglemonkey · 17/09/2022 17:16

I hate Zander/Xander, it just seems too try hard and trite.

StarlingsInTheRoof · 17/09/2022 17:27

I love Elijah. Not what you want to hear of course! Zander will always be a character from Buffy to me, but that finished 20 years ago, so doubt any kids would even know what it was.

purplejungle · 17/09/2022 17:30

X/Zander - do you pronounce it zarn-der or Zann-der?

Zander for me.
FWIW I know a lovely Zander. He is part South African and I understand it is from that side of his family. He is in a professional career and there has never been any indication that his name has held him back in any way.

RuthW · 17/09/2022 18:10

Xander

feckoffbrian · 17/09/2022 18:33

Xander is so common these days. Which is fine, of course (my DC all have popular names).

I know a few Elliot's but not many Eli's.

JazbayGrapes · 17/09/2022 18:50

Eli. Zander is awful.

I'm in the Uk and don't think Zander is popular here but Eli or other names where Eli comes from are popular
