Firstname starting with same letter as surname?

The name we like starts with the same letter as our surname, we really like the name but we're a bit worried about how it will sound beginning with the same letter, any opinions on whether it works or not? Thank you

I know lots of all ages and both genders whose initials are the same, including my grandson! Not a problem at all.

I avoided a name for this reason but I don’t personally like it

My (married) name is like this. I much prefer it to my maiden name, its part of the reason I kept it on divorce. One of my friends says it makes me sound like a rock star 😆

From Amy Adams and Billy Bragg to Tina Turner and William Wordsworth, there are many fine examples (although Tina Turner married into that surname, of course).

One of my children has the same initiall for both first and surname, my mum claimed I couldn’t use it but it made me more determined to do it.

I don't think it's that bad. The only worry is that if the initial letter is one that people commonly struggle with (like S or R), then if they turn out to have that particular speech impediment then it could be quite difficult for them.

My first and surname start with the same letter 🤷‍♀️not married, this is the name my parents gave me - go for it x

Lots do work well, it can be very (as your granny would say) catchy.

I live a bit of alliteration. Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo anyone?

Depends on the names but works well for my DS, his initials are GG.

I just came on to say it’s a bit Marvel Comics. You know, Jessica Jones, Bucky Barnes, Pepper Potts, Matt Murdock, J Jonah Jameson, Bruce Banner, Steven Strange, Peter Parker, and so on and so forth. It makes me think of comics.

But I do think some are worse than others. Depends on the overall sound - some are okay.

Usually it’s great, occasionally it doesn’t work when it’s just too matchy:

• Tilly Townsend - fine
• Tilly Tinny- not fine

It really depends on the names but it is probably fine. It might not work if the sounds are the same as well as the letter
So Freya Frayne sounds weirder than Felicity Frayne

I do love an alliterative name. It wouldn’t put me off at all.

I like . I am pregnant and my DC's first name and surname start with the same letter. They go very well together.

My name is alliterative, I like it and no-one has ever said anything horrible about it. I also know several people in real life with alliterative names so it's not just celebrities and comic book characters.

I like alliterative names as long as there isn't too much (multiple repeated sounds)

I have always love Carmen for example but my surname is a bit like Coleman so ruled it out but Carmen Cook sounds fine to me

Until this thread it's never occurred to me how many people I know with the same letter surnames to forenames! Mostly married surnames. They sound fine. Nothing wrong with it.

My DD2's name is highly alliterative (first name, middle name and both syllables of surname), I think it sounds nice. In some cases it can be a bit sing-songy but in most cases I think alliterative names sound lovely.

My married name is like this. A lot of people call me by my initials as well. I quite like it.

I have same initial and surname and still after marrying and taking his name it's still the same. Sounds gd together. It wouldn't even cross my mind not to pick a name because of this. Different if it rhymes then maybe not but I don't see the issue.

i know two CC's, one BB and one TT and one HH. They rarely notice it at all. go for it
